The Key to Happiness - Proverbs 3:13

If I could offer you the key to happiness, would you take it? Many would take on this proposition assuming there were no strings attached and how happiness is defined. Many define happiness in terms of wealth, power, influence, etc... but the Bible defines happiness in different terms. Happiness comes through godly wisdom. When we find wisdom and give ourselves to her, then we find true happiness, because she protects us from sin.

The fact that few in our land think that true happiness can come through godly wisdom demonstrates the Word of God is not our guide. Have you ever met anyone who sought after happiness through the pursuit of gaining wisdom? Unfortunately, many have ignored the warning of Solomon in Ecclesiastes where he teaches us that living for the here and now is vanity and grasping for the wind. But this is the philosophy western culture has embraced. Consider those who have given themselves to the pursuit of worldly gains. Are they happy? Not if our entertainers are indicative of happiness. Just consider the wealthiest of our entertainers, their lives are plagued with divorce, drug abuse, alcohol abuse, suicide, etc...It should be apparent that wealth, power, and influence do not bring happiness.
