Taking Dominion Through Wisdom - Day 46 The Prosperity of Wisdom - Proverbs 3:9-10
Solomon gives us another example of our duty before God that brings about the blessings of God. It is our duty to serve God with our possessions - Honor the Lord with your substance. One of the most basic principles found in scripture is to honor God. We must honor God not only with our bodies and spirits, which are His, but with our possessions as well. If God blesses us in the material realm, those blessings must be used to glorify Him. We must honor God with our increase, because we are tempted to honor ourselves (Deut, 8:17) and set our affections upon worldly things.
God must receive the first and best. According to Henry - God, who is first and best, must have the first and best in everything. This text reminds us that God owns everything, and we are stewards over what God gives to us. Furthermore, this text teaches us that our possessions are not something separate from my walk with God. How I view my possessions and utilize them to the glory of God, is just as important to my fellowship with Him in prayer.
Notice that God gives us a promise as an incentive to serve God with our possessions. Notice our barns shall be filled (not that our pockets or bags will be full) and our vats shall overflow. We serve a generous God, who desires to bless His children. The principle here is that as we serve God with what we have, the more God gives us to serve with. Henry reminds us - Note, if we make our worldly estates serviceable to our religion we shall find our religion serviceable to the prosperity of our worldly affairs.
Meditate upon this text to see if you have a Biblical view of your possessions. If we desire to grow in wisdom, then we must have God's view concerning the use of our possessions. This is one of the ways we take dominion for God's glory and honor Him in the process.
