The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. Zephaniah 3:17
James 1:17-18 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
The scripture before us brings forth wonderful truths which we, who are the children of God, can be comforted by during these trying times we are living in.
1) Every good gift comes to us from God our Father. We, who are the people of God, have been taught this precious truth time and time again. Note where every good gift comes from “above.” Marvel at this wonderful truth; the Lord Jesus Christ came down from above, and the scriptures declare that, “He was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.” 1st John 3:5. The scriptures also declare that, “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.” 1st John 4:9. What truth we have before us that God sent His son, the ultimate gift from above, to take away the sins of His people that we might live! Praise His mighty name!
2) God the Father never changes. The scriptures declare of Jehovah, that with Him “is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.” He does not forgive us one day then forget; His everlasting salvation is just that, everlasting, forever and unchanging in Christ. His salvation is eternal because He is eternal and because the eternal Word of God, the Lord Jesus Christ, accomplished our salvation! What comfort this truth will bring the born-again child of God! Praise be to God that He is the same yesterday, today and forever! “It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
3) We are born again by the will of God, by the power of the Holy Spirit, through the preaching of the gospel. Look at what the scripture proclaims in our text: “Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth.” God saves us on purpose beloved, we are born again on purpose, and by the will of God! We have no ability to come to Christ unless God the Father makes us willing in the day of His power. This wonderous truth is brought forth here in our text; “Of his own will begat he us.” By His Almighty power and might and His eternal purpose we are born again. This is what “begat” means in our text; God regenerates us according to His will and this is not based upon any merit in us as we have none before God! This is pure mercy on display beloved, this is eternal love on display; that God would save we who deserve His wrath! This comes about when the Word of God is preached! Oh, how important then it is that Christ and Him crucified be preached and proclaimed. Let we who preach the gospel be encouraged to proclaim a finished, complete, sin atoning work in Christ alone each time we have the opportunity to preach the gospel! May God use the preaching of His Word for His glory, honor and praise! Hallelujah! What a Savior is Jesus Christ our Lord!
“Where two or three are gathered in My name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20The Holy Spirit is the only Gatherer. Christ Himself is the only object to which we are gathered, and our assembly, when convened, is to be characterized by holiness. The Holy Spirit can only gather to Christ. He doesn’t gather to a system, a name, a doctrine or an ordinance. He gathers to a Person and that Person is a glorified Christ in Heaven.
