Over the last few days, we have been looking at the protection wisdom provides. Not only does wisdom preserve us, but wisdom protects us from the pain of ignorance. Those, who are not knowledgeable in the things of the Lord, are either apathetic to knowledge or find gaining knowledge a great pain. Knowledge should not be painful, it is something we should enjoy. When it comes to the knowledge of the Lord, it should be a pleasure to our soul.
I am reminded of the Catechism question - What is the chief end of man? Answer: To glorify God and enjoy Him forever. I think we can agree that we should glorify God. But there is more to the answer - we should enjoy God. Many of us enjoy the benefits of God, but do we enjoy Him? Wise people do! However, the fool does not enjoy God, and they find the knowledge of God painful. The fool works hard to drive all thoughts of God out of their mind. They suppress the knowledge of God in unrighteousness (Rom 1:18).
Let us take a moment to consider which category we find ourselves. Do we delight in the knowledge of God and find joy in Him?
