The Security of Wisdom - Proverbs 2:8

Once again, the book of Proverbs emphasizes the security of wisdom. Wisdom guards the path of justice and preserves the way of the saints. The Lord through wisdom keeps us. God always does what is right and just. In the course of His providence and the ways of His grace, He guides His people (those who have been consecrated to Him) in the ways of righteousness and holiness. And the promise and hope of each Christian is that God keeps us from turning our foot off the pathways of righteousness.

We need to hear this word today. When it looks as though the wicked get the upper hand, we need to remember that God is a shield of protection (Prov. 2:7) and a guard of the narrow way. John Gill reminds us - He is their shield and protection, so as either to keep them in the right ways in which they should go; or that they might studiously observe them, and keep walking therein, without stumbling in them, or declining from them. Those who pervert and distort justice will not prosper, they are just being fattened up for the slaughter (Psalm 49). Therefore, do not envy them, but rather pity them. If God does not change their hearts, they will perish, but the righteous will be preserved.
