We don't know what we will face in the days ahead. We don't know what authorities will do. Though we know He is on the throne, we don't know God's plans. But as we face an uncertain future we do know what we must do. It isn't our business to guess what may or may not happen. We are not in the business of determining and manipulating consequences. We are not pragmatists. We are Christians. God has given us a duty and we will do it whatever the cost.
People sometimes come to me asking "what if _____"? I stopped asking those questions a long time ago. The what if I leave to God. I concern myself with my duty.
There was a day years ago that I died to self. I had counted the cost of following Jesus, but I had also found a treasure. I had found a pearl of great price! And it was an easy decision to make. I could see that no price was too great. Were the whole realm of nature mine that would have been an offering far too small. I knew then that Jesus is worthy!
And so I 'sold everything to buy the field' and get the treasure.
All that to say that long ago I resolved to live and die for my Saviour. I knew then and I know now that He is worth any price. As a child I new a martyr's death was an honourable one. And I have not changed my mind.
And so I don't ask "what if".
The 'worst' they can do is kill me. But I know something they don't. To die is gain! To depart and be with Christ is far better. So pressure may mount, opposition may intensify, but nothing changes.
They can lock us out of our buildings but they can't keep us from gathering. They can lock up our pastors but God will raise up more. They can take our homes but they cannot take our Saviour. They can fine us, imprison us, and even kill us - & still we will worship. "The body they may kill God's truth abideth still; His kingdom is forever."
