According to our text, God is not only wise, but He gives true wisdom. Only God, the true source of wisdom, can give knowledge and understanding. This is a text that all philosophers should meditate upon. Remember, the word philosopher means - lover of wisdom. If the philosopher truly loved wisdom, then he would come to God's Word and submit to His teachings. As Christians, we should all be philosophers (lovers of wisdom). And as lovers of wisdom, we must start with the revelation of God since this is the very foundation of wisdom.
What a sight the church would be if she were filled with true philosophers? Consider how God has blessed us with the revelation of his will. We have His law, the gospel, the example of godly men and women, and most important, the example of His Son. In order to be a true philosopher, we must have the fear of the Lord. And in order to have knowledge and true discretion, we must begin with God.
