Today's Topic:
Yesterday, on the "Calling For Truth" Radio Program, we began to address some of the charges leveled against Conservative Christians by a homosexual activist group called "Faith In America" (FIA) that has targeted Greenville, SC for a six-week anti-Christian campaign.
One of the reasons Greenville has been targeted by FIA for this anti-Christian campaign is the tragic death of a young gay man, who was killed during a fight outside of a bar (after being punched the young man fell backwards and hit his head on a curb). A suspect has been arrested and is awaiting trial. Friends of the victim indicated to police, that at some point during the altercation, the suspect made a derogatory remark about the victim's sexuality.
The FIA campaign charges that Conservative Christians are in some way responsible and should be held liable for the death of this young man, because they teach that the Bible says homosexuality is sin.
As we explained on yesterday's program, the FIA's attempt to connect the Christian Community to this crime is completely incredulous and slanderous. As far as we know the suspect has no connection to the Christian Community whatsoever. The Christian Community condemns any and all such violence toward any individual, whether that person is male or female, black or white, young or old, gay or straight... we make no distinction.
The FIA campaign accuses the Christian Community of inciting violence against gays by teaching that homosexuality is sin. According to Kirk and Madsen in the book "After The Ball - How America Will Conquer It's Fear and Hatred of Gays", constantly portraying gays as victims is a strategy adopted by gay activists. They write, "The purpose of gay victim imagery is to make straights feel very uncomfortable - gays should be portrayed as victims of prejudice. Straights must be shown graphic pictures of brutalized gays, dramatizations of job and housing insecurities, loss of child custody, public humiliations, etc."
Does Biblical teaching really incite violence? If it were true that Christian teaching leads individuals to violence against those committing the sins spoken against, wouldn't the young man in the tragic story mentioned above have attacked all the patrons who were over-indulging in alcohol in the bar? Historically, Christian teaching has consistently condemned drunkenness yet we do not see any correlation between Biblical teaching and violence against alcoholics. Why? Because simply teaching and preaching moral beliefs does not incite violence. If it did, then we would see a correlation in all the areas of Christian beliefs, such as lying, or stealing, etc. In others words, tax evaders and car thieves, and adulterers, etc. would also be victimized.
If the FIA really believed that stating beliefs resulted in violence against those who do not share those beliefs, then they should be very concerned that their reckless statements made against the Christian Community as a whole would lead to violence against the people in that community. But apparently the FIA does not really believe that just simply stating what you believe, inevitable leads to violence.
We are left to the conclusion that the FIA group is simply exploiting a tragic situation for political advantage. Since the Executive Director of FIA is a former pastor, he, above all people, should be above using these types of unethical tactics. Name-calling, disinformation and smear campaigns are not acceptable means of persuasion.
