Sons we are through God's election, who in Jesus Christ believe;
By eternal destination, sovereign grace we here receive.
Pause, my soul, adore and wonder; ask, "Oh, why such love to me?"
Grace has put me in the number of the Saviour's family.
Every fallen soul by sinning merits everlasting pain,
But God's love, without beginning, has restored His sons again.
When my Saviour comes in judgement, bright in majesty divine,
I will stand in that great number in His righteousness as mine.

WE WILL HAVE THE LORD’S SUPPER FOLLOWING THE MORNING MESSAGE
AN EXCERPT FROM A SERMON BY TOBIAS CRISP (1600-1642)
"For Christ; is the end of the law righteousness to every one that believeth" (Romans 10:4).To what purpose doth [the apostle Paul] bring this passage, that Christ is the end of the law; but that by these words he might confute their vanity, who think to establish their own righteousness in the fulfilling of the law? As if he should say, you think by your keeping the law, by your righteousness you perform, you can attain to the end of it, that so you may obtain the grace and goodness of the Lord. But it is in vain. It is not you that can reach the end of the law; neither doth God aim at it that you should reach it, but He hath constituted and ordained Christ to be the end of it. Therefore the righteousness of God must be the righteousness of Christ; the righteousness that God aims at is perfect, a righteousness that reaches to the very end of the law. Your righteousness can never reach to the end of it; it is Christ's alone that doth it.
CHRIST DIED FOR THE UNGODLY
“For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly,”
Romans 5:6.
In order to redeem poor sinners from the curse and condemnation of their sin, the infinite, eternal Son of God, the Lord Jesus came down from heaven, put on the rags of mortality, and suffered, bled and died. This is a truth that the Bible calls- “the mystery of godliness- God became a man!” I Timothy 3:16.
The Lord Jesus was made the Substitute, the Sin-bearer, Sin remover and Guilt sustainer of sinners whom God in electing grace purposed to save from all eternity. Their full debt was placed to His account and His obedience unto death fully paid their every sin. Sin was removed from the guilty ones and laid upon the Sinless one. He endured the infinite wrath of God until it remains no more on those for whom Christ died. All who believe were justified when He died. God dealt with ALL their sin there in His death, and simultaneously accounted them just by His righteousness imputed to them at the cross. God dealt with His Son as the guilty one, and declares righteous the otherwise guilty ones, ALL because of Christ’s obedience unto death, Rom. 5:9. His stripes are the sinner’s healing and His obedience their justification before a Holy God. Sinner, salvation is in this Savior only! Faith is the gift of God tosee Him. Bow to Him and submit to His righteousness revealed in the Gospel, Romans 1:17.

Have You Been Made “FREE INDEED"?
As I contemplated the article for this week’s paper, my heart was drawn to the blessed comfort every sinner the Lord Jesus Christ justified at Calvary by His obedience unto death is encouraged and commanded to enjoy-“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW (HAVE CONFIDENCE) that ye have eternal life, and that ye may (continue to) believe on the name of the Son of God.” (I Jn.5:13) Paul wrote to Timothy-“For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded (CONVINCED) that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”(II Tim.1:12) It’s not that John or Paul or any of God’s justified saints have confidence in themselves, i.e., their faith, their works, or their commitment-“For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, AND HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THE FLESH.”(Phil.3:3) Christ said: “So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.”(Lk.17:10) Like Abraham, the father of the faithful, every elect sinner’s confidence is in the ONE who made the promise to save them by His obedience unto death, and His willingness to do everything necessary to obtain their eternal justification.
Every elect sinner will in God’s appointed time simply take God at His word-“He (Abraham) staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded (CONVINCED) that, what He (God) had promised, He was able also to perform. And therefore it (NOT ABRAHAM’S BELIEF, BUT THE MERIT OF ALL THE WORK OF THE OBJECT OF HIS FAITH, CHRIST) was imputed (legally charged) to him for righteousness.(Rom.4:20-22) “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed (they only gave MENTAL AGREEMENT TO WHAT HE SAID) on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know (understand, perceive, love) the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”(Jn.8:31, 32) It’s interesting to note that the word “continue” used by our Lord in this passage is the same Greek word translated “abideth” in II Jn.9-Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth (continues) not in the doctrine of Christ, HATH NOT GOD. He that abideth (continues) in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.” But Christ didn’t stop with those words. He then told them and us-“If the Son therefore shall make you free (Christ accomplished this at Calvary), YE SHALL BE FREE INDEED. (Jn.8:36) By Christ’s obedience unto death at Calvary and by virtue of the righteousness He established, all of God’s elect were freed from all the guilt and penalty of sin, freed from sin’sdominion, and one day we’ll be free from sin’s very presence. What a glorious Redeemer is our blessed Lord!
