"Confidence in God" Psalm 11&27 The Psalm is a coherent whole, but also has three distinct parts. The theme is confidence in God. Some scorn and question his confession. David stands fast on his confession and does not flee. And, standing in his confession he does not need to fear and that the Lord's countenance is ALWAYS upon His people. David cleaves to His God and will not be moved. This Psalm is Messianic!
Challenged: David's confession is right away gain-said. David had counselors who stood opposed to his confession and who told him to flee (Job's friends.) They had not told Job the truth about God, and so to with David. They council him to NOT rely on God, but to flee as others are ready to pounce on David. Fundamental it is ALWAYS so with the child of God and the world. There was enmity between them and always will be at the crosshairs with the devil against them...the arch enemy who always whispers in the ears and questions the child of God. Do we know and see the blood in history shed for confession? People torn at the mouth of lions! Guido de bre who did not recant his confession and wrote a letter as he faced certain death and hanging! How far from Job's friends? From those around us who want us to renege, take back, and "ease up" on the very doctrines we hold so dear and firm on. Maybe you have eased up already on them?
Grounded: What did David, Job, and the heroes of faith say? They countered those who questioned God and they CONFESSED GOD! So hard to maintain God's sovereignty and providence and the truth He has given to us as they say to us "just let it go...it will be easier..." God's people are always given His GRACE. His FAVOR even though it may not seem so. God sits in the heavens and controls ALL things out of His LOVE and providential care and He controls even the "hang man" and he is the God who we put out trust in! Make sure YOU know your CONFESSION and DOCTRINE and know the WORD OF GOD inside and out! SHOW IT! LIVE IT! AND TEACH IT TO YOUR CHILDREN! Show them they are more precious to you even though the world will mock! This Psalm is Messianic and the words of our Lord Jesus Christ who was sure of His Father's word as He walked the way of rejection, persecution, and the cross but was ASSURED of GLORY! Is He not faithful and do His words ever fail? Or do we listen to those who question and gainsay and give bad exhortation?
Encouraging: Or should we stand fast? I put my trust in the sovereign Jehovah God! Renege? Regardless of circumstance or predicament or what it seems, God's countenance is ALWAYS upon us, and He always cares for us in His love and it can be no different! When others leave He is always with us! Read the Psalms and the confessions! He eye lids try men and how the Lord beholds the wicked (squinting at them.) He will hurl in tempest His judgment...BUT the countenance of the Lord is ALWAYS with us that we may sink our roots deeper and deeper in Him, be patient in His ways, and fashioned by Him to enter into glory..the glory of heaven! Shall we flee and run away from? It indeed is tempting from time to time is it not?!
THE FOUNDATIONS ARE SHAKING!. Where is truth? Where is faithfulness to marriage and to children? Where is faithful doctrine? Where is God's glory placed before anything else? It is all being compromised and is crashing before our eyes. Shall we too cave or stand firm as David did? (Even amidst his "friends" and counselors.) He will bless us through all the persecution, mockery, all the way into the GLORY of heaven!
What must we do today? Here and now?....Stand fast and believe in His promise to us and our children. It is sure! Now, and forevermore!
