But Elijah said to her, “Give me your son.”
So he took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his own bed. Then he cried out to the LORD, “O LORD my God, have You also brought tragedy on this widow who has opened her home to me, by causing her son to die?” Then he stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to the LORD, “O LORD my God, please let this boy’s life return to him!” vs19-21
Prayer is a powerful weapon; it has been given to us by God, so that we can prevail with Him. Like Jacob, admit your weakness and pray!
First, it is those who have no strength that prevail in prayer: This is Paul’s secret, that when he was weak, then he was strong.
That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. [2 Cor 12:9-10]
As confidence in self is taken away, along with sureness in grace being provided, then we LOOK UP to the Mighty God, and He supplies us. If we are honest with God, as weak as we are, then it will be well.
He will not forsake us, and He will not let us down. He will fulfill His good promises and enable us. We’ll walk in supernatural strength, as we believe God and rely on Him.
Secondly, prayer of intercession is getting involved; it is stretching yourself over the one you’re praying for.
So he took him from her arms, carried him to the upper room where he was staying, and laid him on his own bed...Then he stretched himself out over the child three times and cried out to the LORD, vs20-21
Elijah prayed as if the boy was himself. He counted upon the mercy SO DESPERATELY that showing mercy to the boy was showing mercy to him.
This is how we must come to make intercession: We must love them, and we must cover them up, as Christ did for us. He makes intercession by bearing away our sins and laying His life down.
We make intercession by coming to God and saying, “Have mercy on me,” as we deal with them.
Matt 15:22, And a Canaanite woman from that region came to Him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is miserably possessed by a demon.”
This is how the Canaanite woman prevailed, and you will prevail [Matt 15:21-28]. Indifferent prayer is mouthing words; intercession is PLEADING WITH GOD in desperate need for one who cannot pray for himself.
Remember this as you cry out for the Holy Spirit: You needed Him to save you, and you need Him just as much now to save others. Then, He will come.
Thirdly, God will give life from the dead! vs22
“And the LORD listened to the voice of Elijah, and the child’s life returned to him, and he lived.” vs22
He heard Elijah and answered him, and He will answer you. Everyone that’s in the Book of Life will be saved by the instrument of prayer.
Prayer says, “I am weak, but You are strong,” and it gives glory to God (Rom 4:20-21). It shows need, dependence, and faith; it glorifies God to help the helpless, and when we’re at this point, He acts.
Walk by faith and look to Him. Don’t trust yourself at all, and don’t go in unbelief and doubt. God hears prayer and uses it, just like He uses preaching.
Ps 65:2, "O You who listen to prayer, all people will come to You."
It is NEVER just truth: it is always truth and the Spirit [John 3:5]; it is always God getting involved.
Finally, you have your orders: Go and pray. Use the weapon God has given!
