Do I pray like this? 2.0

In Ephesians 3:14-21, the Apostle Paul prayed an exceptional prayer for the Ephesians when he asked the Lord that they might be transported in their hearts and minds to that "upper and heavenly" world, and that they might be able to comprehend and to know things that were unknowable; I.e. That they might KNOW the love of Christ! He described the love of Christ as that "which passeth knowledge" or that which was incomprehensible. But how can we know that which is unknowable? By asking Him who does know all things!

And so Paul prayed: "For this cause, I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man"

Understand Christian, this is not a one time request or need, but a continual need, and that which you ought to continually be asking from the Lord. You and I need this "heavenly grant" today, and if the Lord wills and gives us another day of life, it is a heavenly grant needed for tomorrow as well. It is a present need for us in every present moment of life in this fallen and sinful world. You and I are in constant need of being "spiritually strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man". We must continue to be given new and fresh supplies of God's strength and grace for our Christian lives, that we might be strengthened and reinvigorated in ours souls, and that we might continue to live "in this world" while not be "of this world".

In 1 Kings 19:7-8, when Elijah went for his life because of the threats of Jezebel, the angel told Elijah that he must rise and eat because the journey is too great for thee. "And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God"

Beloved of God, the Christian life is "a journey too great for thee"; you cannot go in your own strength; YOU MUST be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man"; for that to come to pass you MUST be eating and drinking the precious truths of the Word of God, and then, you must ask God for this precious and continued grant of His strength for each day!

Paul then prayed for them, "that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to "comprehend" and "know" the love of Christ; or that which is beyond our ability to comprehend; that "which passeth knowledge"; to know and understand that which cannot be known or understood by the natural mind. Not even the most spiritually minded Christian can plumb to depths of the love of Christ toward unworthy sinners. But we ought to plumb these depths nonetheless!

And why is it so very important for us to KNOW the love of Christ? That you might be filled with all the fulness of God. "All the fulness of God"! What does this mean? How can this be? How does it happen? Remember, this was part of Paul's prayer request for the Ephesian saints. "That you might be filled". But you and I will NOT be filled with all the fulness of God, nor the love of Christ if we are in love with, and filling ourselves with the things of this world; the lusts of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. If we would be filled with all the fulness of God, we must be emptying ourselves of this world; mortifying it, cutting it off, and casting our love for this world and our sins from our inner man; and then, we MUST fill ourselves with the sanctifying and cleansing Word of God, that we might be strengthened by God's might in the inner man. Remember that God desires truth in the inner parts. And so....

Matthew 5:6: "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled"

Finally, Paul trusted in the only One able that could accomplish this supernatural work in the lives of the saints at Ephesus; and God is the only One that can grant this request for your life, Christian.

Ephesians 3:20-21: "Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen."
