In Ephesians 1:16-19, the Apostle Paul prayed for specific "spiritual things" for the saints at Ephesus.
That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory: May give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, so that "the eyes" of your understanding may be enlightened, or that your hearts would be enriched in the truths of Christ.
What a prayer! This is how we should be praying for ourselves and for our brethren and churches! Grant unto me; unto us Heavenly Father, that we would have this spirit of wisdom and this revelation in the knowledge of Christ!
Paul continued, that they, (and, that we) would KNOW the hope of their (our) calling; and that they (we) would KNOW and believe and embrace the great privileges which they (we) now possess in Christ, but also, that they (we) would know what awaits them (us) in eternity in heaven; "the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints. What a lively hope! We have an inheritance, incorruptible, undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Christian, never forget what 1 John 3:2-3 says: "Beloved, NOW are we the sons of God"; we are children of God NOW. John continued; "and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. And every man that hath THIS HOPE in him, purifieth himself, even as he is pure".
And, finally, Paul prayed that "they (we) may know "what is the exceeding greatness of His power to usward who believe, according to the working of His mighty power"
Paul prayed that they would understand the greatness of God's supernatural power which was put forth or exerted toward them personally in the salvation of their souls; when God saved them from their sins and from the captivity and dominion of Satan, who is god of this world; and when God saved them from death and from eternal damnation. Paul prayed for these things for the saints at Ephesus. We would do well to study and pattern our prayers for ourselves and for our brethren in like manner.
