This name is the name God spoke to Moses from the burning bush.

Moses was to tell the children of Israel that this God, with this name, I Am, had sent him.

God in fact, spoke this name in various times and divers ways to Israel, and has left a record in the Old Testament Scriptures of over 6000 uses of this name for people of all ages, nations, tribes, and tongues to know Him by.

We truly can know God by this name I Am, because, like all the names of God, this one, I Am, (translated in many of our Bibles as Jehovah, or, LORD, reveals wonderful truth about God.

I Am Who I Am, which is derived from the Hebrew word “to be” means, very simply, “God is.”

It is the way God addresses us with this truth of Himself: He is ultimate Being.

This means He is in Himself God, and of Himself He is God. He is, therefore truly God.

If God were not He would not be God.

If God became there would have been a time He was not God, and therefore, having only become God He could not be the true God.

If God were God only now, but not later, He would not be God, but a fickle god.

If God were God only depending on circumstances, or a people owning that He is God He would not be God, but a puppet god.

But God is. He is Who He is. Always. Over all. Supreme Being. And any other things that are are because of Him.

When I Am visited Moses, it was first to humble him, to cause him to take off his sandals and to bow before him on the sacred ground before a burning and yet not consumed bush.

Then it was to send Him to the people of His good pleasure, held captive by a king of Egypt.

When I Am visits us, it is first to stop us, to turn us off the well-beaten path of our little, limited, fearful existence, and to humble us

so that we, and all that is around us and happening to us and occupying us, and making us happy, or plaguing us…are no longer the center…

But I Am is.

Visiting us, addressing us, humbling us, I Am sends us off to spread His name abroad.

For such a time as this.
