But Moses said to the LORD, “Then the Egyptians will hear of it, for you brought up this people in your might from among them,” Numbers 14:13
When interceding for Israel because of sin, Moses appeals to the LORD with regard to His glory. The prophet spoke as if to say, “They will say You were not powerful enough to deliver them; that You were deceitful in removing them from Egypt.” Moses appealed to God’s glory when the people worshiped a golden calf as well (Ex 32:12). Seeking the glory of Yahoveh foreshadowed the sinless walk of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus always did whatever pleased the Father (John 8:28), seeking the Father’s glory constantly (John 17:4). Every teaching, every action, and every miracle the Lord Jesus performed, was for the glory of the heavenly Father (John 11:4). This is our ultimate purpose in heaven and upon earth: to glorify God and enjoy Him forever (1 Cor 10:31; Psa 73:26-26). When we approach life, do we pray so as to appeal to God’s glory in Christ? Do we pray in trials and tribulations, “Father, be glorified in our circumstance that the world may see your glory”? Are we praying when we worship with believers, “Father, be magnified by Your people that You may be glorified in Your people”? When we evangelize or share the gospel, do we pray, “Father, have mercy on this sinner and bring salvation so that one more soul may enter the kingdom of heaven in order to glorify You, because You are worthy of all glory, honor and praise”? When we occupy to seek God’s glory in all things, doubts fly, temptations fade, and the devil flees. Heavenly Father, be glorified in our devotional thoughts today through the exaltation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
O Lord, be glorified today, And every day in Christ; May all God’s people truly say, “The Lord be magnified!”
