In God we have boasted continually, and we will give thanks to your name forever. Selah Psalm 44:8
Was this true of the psalmist’s people, or even the psalmist himself? Did they make their boast in God continually? or do so “all the day long” (KJV)? The sons of Jacob were full of mischief from the time they sold their brother, Joseph, into bondage, to causing their brother, Aaron, to make for them a golden calf, to the crucifixion of the Friend who sticks closer than a brother, the Lord Jesus Christ. Moreover, can any church in the last two thousand years say they have boasted in God continually? We are sinners who fail miserably every single day to praise God and glory in God purely and perfectly. Nevertheless, because our perfect Savior boasted in God the Father ever and always with pure, perfect, and unstoppable conviction, we, whom He has saved by His grace, have His righteousness imputed unto us. Our failure to boast are covered by Christ’s precious blood. Our sins and misgivings have been atoned by His sufferings and death. For us, His redeemed, any boast in God is through Christ, and therefore, it is continual. For us, every boast in God is through Christ, and therefore, it is perfect. Not by virtue of our doing, but by imputation for what Christ has done. Because this is so, and as it has been revealed to our minds by the Word, we will give thanks to [His] name forever.Selah, pause for a moment and meditate upon this truth. Christ is worth praising. He deserves to be thanked forever.
In God, through Christ, we boast all day: Christ’s righteousness is placed On our account; for Christ has paid Sin’s price, therefore, we praise.
