Peace thorugh Jesus Christ
You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you (Isaiah 26:3). “Peace” in the text, is the Hebrew shalom. Shalom is surely peace. It may also refer to healing, rest, prosperity, security—every blessing God gives His covenant people.
Peace with Jehovah God is the shalom of the beautiful prophecy of Isaiah 26:3. It is the reconciliation of God and sinners, the restoration of fellowship lost in Adam’s fall. It is every blessing God gives in the restored relationship, that love, that friendship.
“Perfect peace” is literally shalom shalom. Doubling a word or even a dream is one way God spoke to the Hebrew covenant people to describe something certain, sure.
Think of Pharaoh’s two dreams in which God showed what He was about to do. The dream was repeated twice, Joseph saw, because the thing (was) established by God, and God (would) surely bring it to pass (Genesis 41:32). Think of Christ’s often saying Verily Verily before His teaching. The doubling was to emphasize that He was about to speak truth, something certainly true.
Shalom shalom is peace for sure, lasting peace. No prospect of war. No war on the horizon. Nothing to separate us from the love and salvation of God.
We may go further. Shalom shalom is not only certain peace. It is real peace. It is everything one could ever imagine peace to be, and then some. It is the most real peace. It is real to the max peace, as we would say.
Peace with God is not only, therefore, something that shall continue to be. Peace is something that is peace--truly is what peace ever can be.
Perfect peace with God. Just no other way to describe this peace than shalom shalom….
No other way…but Jesus Christ.
He is our peace, our perfect peace.
Since the divine doubling of words, the Old pictures, prophesies, and promises of a peace to come…
God has spoken in these last days by His Son. The Word was made flesh. One word: the final truth, the ultimate truth, the period, the divine exclamation point….
Jesus Jesus. Jesus!
He is what peace is, the most blessed blessedness. He was broken that peace would never be broken.
Think on that, on Him. Believe. So may peace like a river, and Christ the river source, attend your way.
For such a time as this.
