Stay at least six feet away from others. One cart per person at Aldi’s. Keep the gatherings, if gather you must, to less than ten people. Best to stay at home, they say, isolated until the virus crawls back into its hole and dies…

As Christians we are reminded of other “distances.” Like

How high God is

Who is the high and lofty one who inhabits eternity, whose name is holy and whose ways and thoughts are higher than ours(Isaiah 57: 15; 55: 8, 9);

How far away our sins are removed:

As far as the east is from the west so far hath (God) removed our transgressions from us (Psalm 103:12);

How distant we are, from this world.

About these “distances” we would ponder presently, delve into them, reach, if possible, up to them.

But just the last for now, as we are “social distancing” ourselves to death to stop death.

Think about, our distance, as God’s people, from this world.

God has done this. In saving us He has taken us from this world to Himself. So we are in this world, but no longer of it. In it, yet above it too.

This is God’s work in our hearts and lives sanctifying us-- “distancing us” from sin—its stain, its power.

This is God’s work in us glorifying us, even now, by “lifting us up” to Himself and the glories of heaven.

In these times when rules are imposed upon us compelling us to “keep our distance” in order to stop the spread of a virus, let us be thinking, and rejoicing that

We are “the called of Christ,” to be His “set apart” ones, His holy saints (Romans 1: 6, 7), and

Raised up together and made to sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6).

This great two-fold “spiritual distancing” blessing, by grace and to stop the spread of sin.

Let us love this God our Savior! And keep our distance.

Even while in this world, witnessing of the truth of another…
