Since the onset of this present pandemic and the drastic measures being taken to rid us of it, they are talking of a “new normal.”

The new normal will be regular rounds of this virus, and perhaps of other viruses. The new normal will be social distancing, more hand washing, more online this or that, more government regulations, including, perhaps, required immunity cards if you would buy, or sell, or eat out, or just eat.

As believers, called to redeem this corona virus time, we take the opportunity to be a people of the Word, and therefore of Christ the Word.

For some, perhaps many of us, this will, in fact, be a new and more godly normal.

We have forgotten what is truly essential, necessary, basic to our living.

Jesus declares that man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4).

We have had Jesus on the side.

Ours has been the habit of drowsing off reading Scripture, or of amusing ourselves…

to death by a thousand distractions

Rather than being the disciplined students of Christ, of His book, in His Spirit.

Awake you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light says the Apostle (Eph 5:14)

The new spiritual normal needs to be, for all of us, more of the Savior, more truth…

He and it in us, and we in Him and it

So in buying up the time, in our every day existence, we buy the truth, and sell it not (Proverbs 23:23),

Remembering, so thankfully, in all our snooze-button pushing frail attempts to arise and shine, that Christ our light has come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon us (Isaiah 60:1).

God’s normal, never new, ever new, is grace.

For such a time as this.
