“But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you.” vs28
One of the evidences Christ has come in power is driving out Satan. We must have this attached to our ministry. It cannot be word only.
First, we get this power by faith. We believe on the Lord, the Son of God, and He heals us! He gives us power over sin, joy, and peace. He makes us rely on the Spirit instead of the flesh. He works through His word, and we cease from striving in the power of man.
Put no more trust in man,
who has only the breath in his nostrils.
Of what account is he? [Isa 2:22]
We believe the gospel - that without Him we can do nothing- and we give Him the glory by faith.
Secondly, driving out Satan means that others are healed also! They taste and see that the Lord is good. Power from on high changes them. They have an interest in the gospel and understand it. No man has power who is in darkness about sin, righteousness, and victory, but believing transforms us.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into His image with intensifying glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. [2 Cor 3:17-18]
Adulterers are changed, drunkards are sobered up, and the hateful become loving. New life is experienced! Not the old life made better but an entirely new life of disciple making [Matt 28:20]! This is the new life of God.
Thirdly, power must be prayed for and walked in to get more power. We must pray! Lift up your heart to Him and DEVOTE yourself to God. Obedience produces more obedience. Obedience produces assurance!
“Little children, let us love not in word and speech, but in action and truth. And by this we will know that we belong to the truth, and will assure our hearts in His presence:” [1 John 3:18-19]
Trust God, see Him faithful, then you will trust Him more. Obey like Abraham, offering Isaac, and you will see the promises more clearly.
And the angel of the LORD called to Abraham from heaven a second time, saying, “By Myself I have sworn, declares the LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your only son, I will surely bless you, and I will multiply your descendants like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will possess the gates of their enemies. And through your offspring all nations of the earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.” [Gen 22:15-18]
You will believe more.
We must not settle for word only. We must not be content with God not acting, but we must look upon Him to work through His word. This is prayer!
Finally, if we unite in prayer, preach, and walk by faith, then we’ll see God’s power!
