Acts 14:17, “Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.” God witnesses to all mankind of His majesty and greatness. He does not leave us in the total darkness of Adam’s fall, but of His goodness continues to tell us that He is, and that He is the rewarder all them that diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).
This witness is of two kinds, internal and external.
Internally. Conscience. This is a witness within every man. With conscience all have a sense of God and His justice and judgment.
Externally. God’s external witness to us is of three kinds.
Creation. “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handy-work” (Psalm 19).
Providence. The bounty of His everyday dealings are a perpetual witness, in that He does good, filling us “with food and gladness.”
Holy Scripture. God gives witness not only by His works but also speaks clearly by His own lips.
“If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son” (1 John 5:9).
