Joshua 1:8 - This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
When is the last time you truly spent time meditating on God’s Word? When is the last time that the Word of God permeated your thought life to where you literally could not think about anything else? The necessity for meditation in the life of a believer cannot be understated. It is vitally important to the Christian life, yet it is often neglected by the Christian. We seem to be content with picking up our Bibles day in and day out, reading it for 10-15 minutes, then putting it down without really drawing any closer to the God that we say we love.
How many times does the man who gets a letter from his love pour over each and every word so that he misses nothing? When he speaks to her, he hangs on every word so that does not miss a single one. He learns what she likes and what she does not like. And as he meditates on the love of his life, the things that use to dominate his time become an afterthought. He no longer cares about them. He has changed.
So should it be and more with the Christian as we read God’s love letter to us. We should pour over every word again and again and again so that we miss nothing. We must listen to every word God speaks. In doing so, we will learn what He likes and what He does not like. As we meditate day and night on God and His Word, the things that use to dominate our time, our earthly desires, become an afterthought. We no longer care for them because God, through His Word, will have changed us (Romans 10:17).
What will you think about today? Will you take time to dive into God’s love letter?
