If we are honest with ourselves we think, talk, and write about God the Father and God the Son; but we give little emphasis or energy toward our relationship with and our response toward the Holy Spirit. We forget the emphasis that the Lord Jesus Christ placed on the Holy Spirit when He said that it was better for us to have the Spirit within us than to have the Savior with us! This was the last major teaching of Jesus before His Crucifixion. This is important!
We must alway remember that the Holy Spirit is a Person. He is the third person of the Trinity. He is not a force or a personification. Scripture specifically states that He is a person (John 16:13). We can even learn from Scripture that the Holy Spirit has a mind (Romans 8:27), emotion (Ephesians 4:30), and will (1 Corinthians 12:11. There is a big difference between a Person and a feeling.
The Holy Spirit is not just any person, He is the third Person of the Trinity. He is God. He is God in His attributes. He is God in His work. He is coequal with God the Father and God the Son!
His purpose on this earth is to indwell the believer. He has been doing this since the day of Pentecost. This is the pinnacle opportunity! The Old Testament saints would marvel at that fact. This is also the pinnacle of relationship. Because we have the Spirit within us, we can now walk in the Spirit. We have an advantage that no other age has had! The Holy Spirit not only indwell the believer, but He illuminates the Word (1 John 2:27) and will of God to the believer. He empowers us to ministry by giving us spiritual gifts and allowing us to produce spiritual fruit.
We must never again neglect the power, position, person of the Holy Spirit. We should always be grateful for His working in our lives. Without Him, we would never be convicted of sin, never drawn to the Savior, still dead in sin, and still in darkness.
