Our True Selves

Your attitude and personality in the house of the Lord and around believers is no indication at all of the presence of grace and faith in your soul. But rather your attitude and personality in your own house and toward your own family reveal your true self. 1 Timothy 5:8 says, “But if any provide not for his own and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith and is worse than an infidel.”

This does not only apply to food and clothing, but to love, understanding, kindness, and spiritual example. Actually, I had much rather have the approval and testimony of those with whom I live, for they see me and hear me in unguarded and unfeigned moments.

HE HATH MADE HIM TO BE SIN

2 Corinthians 5:21

A most amazing statement; the sinless one was made to be sin. God made the perfectly innocent One to be sin for us. I bless His holy name and adore Him that He is not unjust in order to be merciful; that He does not spare the guilty in order to indulge His gentleness. Every transgression and disobedience has its just recompense of reward. I bless His holy name that to vindicate His justice, He determined that, while a free pardon should be provided for all believers, it should be grounded upon an atonement which satisfied all the requirements of His holy law.

HIMSELF HE CANNOT SAVE

The chief priests mocked the Savior as He suffered and died. “He saved others; himself he cannot save.” (Matthew 27:42) They didn’t realize it, but truer words have never been spoken. The Lord Jesus Christ could not deliver Himself from the cross because He was suffering the justice of God for the sin of His people. If He had come down from the cross, none of His people could be saved. The Lord Jesus could not come down from the cross because He was there to satisfy and glorify His Father. The Father could not be satisfied unless Christ died as the sacrifice for sin. The Father could not be glorified unless His Son died to put away the sin of God’s elect. It was not a lack of power that held Christ to the tree. It WAS His power that held Him to the tree. His power to save held Him to the tree. The power of His love for His Father and His people held Him to the tree. Thank God He did not save Himself but rather died to save His people from their sin.

NO OTHER SALVATION

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

There is no other SAVIOUR but Jesus Christ to look to for salvation (Isa. 45:21-22; Matt. 11:25-28; John 14:6). There is no other SACRIFICE but Jesus Christ to cleanse us from all sin (1 John1:7; 1Peter1:18-20). There is no other SUBSTITUTE but Jesus Christ to redeem us from the curse of the Law (Gal. 3:13; 2Cor. 5:21). There is no other SERVANT but Jesus Christ to honor and establish righteousness for us (Isa. 42:21; Matt. 5:17; Phil. 3:7-9; Rom. 4:6), There is no other SURETY but Jesus Christ to guarantee all the terms of the everlasting covenant of grace (Heb. 7:22; Heb. 9:12; Heb. 13:20). There is no other SHEPHERD but Jesus Christ that can effectually justify and bring the lost sheep home (Psalm 23; John 6: 37-39; 10:11; Matt.1:21 1 Peter 3:18). There is no other SURE FOUNDATION but Jesus Christ where weary sinners can find safety, salvation and secure refuge (Psalm 46:1; Isa. 28:16; 1 Cor. 3:11; 1 Peter 2:6). There is no other SCEPTRE but Jesus Christ to rule and reign for the good of the elect and the glory of God (Ro. 8:28; Acts 2:36;Phil. 2:7-9). There is no other SEED OF WOMAN but Jesus Christ to bruise the serpent’s head and crush the dominion of evil (Gen. 3:15; Col. 2:15; Heb. 2:14-17).

IGNORANCE LEADS TO ERROR

“Jesus answered and said unto them, ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God” (Matthew 22:29)
