Pride is not simply a sin. It is the root of all sin. It is a demonstration that your human heart has ambition, and you’re going to exercise your human ability over God’s ability; you’re going to assert your human will over God’s will. Every sin comes from that. If we get this one area figured out, we’re going to be able to control the other problem areas, the other sins in our life.

If you say, “Well pride isn’t a problem for me”, then you do have a problem with pride.

Even before creation, there was pride. How did the chief creation of God, this amazing creature called Lucifer, fall? What made this beautiful, strong, angelic being fall? It was a desire to be higher than God: “I will.”

You don’t ever have to speak it aloud. Your heart speaks louder than your voice. Sometimes it’s not that you’re saying out loud, “I will be higher than God,” but that your actions and attitude are saying it. The way you act can show an “I know more than God” attitude.

When you start the day opening His Word to find out what He wants to tell you, that is a sign of humility. When you open your mouth every day and say, “Lord I commit myself to you today” then you have a good chance of not thinking too highly of yourself. It will help keep you from the sin of “I will.”
