“So, what do you think of the boss?” asked the new employee.

“I guess he is alright as far as employers go. I’ve honestly never met him,” answered one employee.

“Are you kidding? He’s a total joke. No one respects him!” another worker said in disgust.

“Yeah, he’s not around much, so I usually take what I need from the cash register before I head out for the night. He doesn’t pay us enough, anyways,” added another worker.

At the end of the day, the manager called a meeting with the workers. To everyone’s astonishment, the new employee was anything but a newbie; in fact, he was their boss. Shocked and embarrassed, the employees sat there in disbelief.

There was a real-life TV series I watched in which this type of scenario did occur. When the boss was revealed for who he truly was, the employees were stunned. But the show didn’t end there; in fact, each employee was required to meet with him afterwards. Some received a glowing report for how they responded even when it seemed that no one of importance was watching; others left that day no longer employed. Their true character had been revealed and there was no undoing what had been seen by their undercover boss.

The One to whom we are accountable has a front row seat to watch how we respond to life’s difficulties and to the people He has placed in our path. In fact, the Lord never misses a single nuance of our lives. Someday when we stand before Him and our works are judged for our heavenly rewards, will He say that we have been serving from a spirit of love or obligation? Will He say that we acted one way at church and another in private?

Only what has truly been done for Him will last. Are you ready for your one-on-one interview with Christ?
