CALL TO WORSHIP
(I Will Arise and Go to Jesus)

Come, ye sinners, poor and needy,
Weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus ready stands to save you,
Full of pity, love and power.

Come, ye thirsty, come, and welcome,
God’s free bounty glorify;
True belief and true repentance,
Every grace that brings you nigh.

Refrain: I will arise and go to Jesus,
He will embrace me in His arms;
In the arms of my dear Savior,
O there are ten thousand charms.

Come, ye weary, heavy laden,
Lost and ruined by the fall;
If you tarry till you’re better,
You will never come at all.

View Him prostrate in the garden;
On the ground your Maker lies.
On the bloody tree behold Him;
Sinner, will this not suffice?

(Refrain)

Lo! th’incarnate God ascended,
Pleads the merit of His blood:
Venture on Him, venture wholly,
Let no other trust intrude.

Let not conscience make you linger,
Not of fitness fondly dream;
All the fitness He requireth
Is to see your need of Him.

(Refrain)

The Lord willing, I am leaving today to go to Ashland, KY, to be with our family and to preach at 13th Street Baptist Church while their pastor, Brother Jim Byrd, is on vacation.

“But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

Faith is necessary for salvation. But we do not look to our faith to save us; rather, in faith, we look to Christ. Repentance is necessary for salvation. But we do not look to our repentance to save us; rather, in repentance, we turn to Christ. There are graces, which God works in us as He saves us. But these graces are never to be the object of our trust, confidence or hopeful gaze. All the graces God gives us in salvation are to be used to look to, turn to, appreciate, and lay hold of Christ, who is our Salvation! —Copied

We are healed by His stripes;

Would you add to His Word?

And He is our righteousness made;

The best robe of heaven He bids you put on,

Oh, could you be better arrayed?

copied

Here is a great wonder. God is high and holy, and yet the higher a man lifts up himself, the farther he is from God; and the lower a man humbles himself, the nearer he is to God. “For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also who is of a humble and contrite spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones” (Isaiah 57:15). —Thomas Brooks

THE SECURITY OF SALVATION BY TRUE GRACE

“Now UNTO HIM THAT IS ABLE TO KEEP YOU FROM FALLING, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.” (Jude 24-25)

“Wherefore HE IS ABLE ALSO TO SAVE THEM TO THE UTTERMOST that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25)

If our salvation was in any way, to any degree, at any stage conditioned on us, how could we have any real lasting assurance? If we believe what the Bible says about us, even as born-again persons, the only assurance we could really have is assurance of failure. Under that kind of salvation, we should be consumed every moment with fear of losing every blessing of salvation. Under that kind of salvation, all attempts to fight sin and obey God would be nothing more than legal works and mercenary efforts. There could be no obedience motivated by true grace, godly love, and sincere gratitude. But, thank God, our salvation is NOT conditioned on us but on the Lord Jesus Christ alone. Christ is our Surety, and His righteousness imputed forms the ground upon which God saves us, preserves us, and will bring us to final glory. Comfort, assurance, and motivation of salvation by God’s grace lies in the glorious truth that if we are truly saved by God’s grace in and by the Lord Jesus Christ, we can never be lost again. And this does not give a truly born-again sinner an excuse to sin. By the power of the Holy Spirit, it gives him the strongest motivation to fight sin and obey God to the praise of the glory of God’s grace. —Pastor Bill Parker
