In a treatise, written by Robert Garner of The Old Faith Baptist Church in 1645, he had the following to say about the teaching of Scripture on the Sabbath. It is well worth our reading:

“Therefore by Sabbath here, we are to understand the LORD Jesus only, who alone is the Sabbath or Rest of Believers under the Gospel. And to keep the Sabbath from polluting it is to believe in Him only unto righteousness. For to do any work, I mean to seek righteousness, or peace, or reconciliation with God by any work, is to pollute this Sabbath or this Rest; by whom alone, such as believe in Him, do and shall enjoy a glorious and everlasting rest.”

Our LORD Jesus Christ fulfilled the Sabbath and brought in the eternal rest of His redeemed ones when He finished His work in His death on the cross and rose again on the 7^th day of the week. Many wrongly think that He rose on the first day of the week, but it is clear that for Him to have been three days and three nights in the grave, He would have had to die in the middle of the week (our Wednesday) and rise again at the end of the Sabbath day which would have been 6 PM on Saturday evening, when the first day of the week would have begun according to the Jewish time table.

Why is that important? Because if proves that just as the LORD Jesus is the fulfillment of the Jewish Passover as God’s Passover Lamb, 1 Corinthians 5:7, so Christ fulfilled the Old Testament Sabbath in rising from the grave victorious over sin, Satan, the world, and death, thereby procuring that everlasting rest for His people, Hebrews 4:10.
