We have come to the last names of the Son of God as we know Him in His names and in His offices. We now cover the name Lord. There is a digression to teach us there are two natures as the older begotten Son of God as He comes to us and makes us children of God by adoption and we are brought to the name Lord as He becomes our master in our adoption.
God partakes of Himself in the Trinity and that eternally the Son is begotten of the Father...etc. Our Lord is very God of God and the catechism uses the word "natural" to illustrate Christ's Sonship and our sonship with the exception that there is nothing natural about God! He is the Eternal, begotten Son of God in His own essence who is very God of God! Very true even though in the moment we do not understand it. This is a must as if He is not God and just a mere man and a mere creation we have NO salvation.
Wonder of wonders...we are adopted. We are NOT the natural children but by nature we are aliens from the commonwealth and children of wrath. Yet, Christ presses us against His bosom making us His children and "signed" our adoption papers with the blood of Calvary. We, who by nature deserve to be outcast are pulled into the fellowship of God's family by adoption...making us His children and giving us an inheritance. Grace is unmerited favor whereby He makes us beautiful. That is what parents emulate in adoption reflecting Christ's boundless love and giving them all rights and privileges to those children. What does that have to do with the name Lord??? L.D. 1. We, body and soul belong to our Lord Jesus Christ and we become His possession! He rules ALL things and controls ALL things (His Lordship.) God has put ALL things under His rule for the sake of His church! The fullness lives in Christ bodily and all principalities and power belong to our Lord who claims us that we may be SURE that ALL things will work out for good as HE rules over all!
What a comfort. God has given Christ all power, dominion, and glory. He controls it ALL for OUR sake...that we may be brought into all eternity and live with Him forevermore!
