Anyone who is a parent can recall a time in their life when, in frustration, you began looking for an instruction manual. This particular item was not working as advertised. It was making an awful racket, and just would not do what you wanted it to do. Then, to your horror, you realized that this little bundle of joy came home from the hospital without an instruction manual.

As a parent, it is very easy to feel inadequate. When your children are little, they look at you as epic. Around 14, they think you’re the most ignorant adult on the planet. Then around 21, they start to look at you a little differently, and they wonder how you gained all this wisdom in just a few years.

The dictionary defines epic as “heroic or grand in scale or character.” We all want to be an epic dad, or epic mom, but it is not an easy thing to accomplish. Raising children to be men and women of character is a challenge that we cannot face alone. Let’s face it: on most days we don’t feel very epic, do we?

How can we raise our kids without an instruction manual? The Word of God not only tells us how to be good dads and moms, but it also tells kids how to be good kids, workers how to be good workers, and employers how to be good employers.

How can this Ancient Book be relevant to me today? It is God-breathed. It is the Living Word of God which never changes, written by the One Who never changes.
