Most of us know of someone who has been in a car accident in which the vehicle suffered so much damage that it was declared a “total loss.” Maybe you’ve been in one of those situations, and it was your vehicle that was totaled. It is not fun to have to deal with insurance and the loss of freedom that comes from not having a car available.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish…”

There is a much greater loss that some people will suffer, much greater than losing a car or a house. It is the greatest loss - spending an eternity in the lake of fire, separated from God, with no hope of relief or escape. The flames will be bad; the torment will never cease. However, I think the worst part of it is the absence of hope.

When you suffer a painful injury or surgery, you have the hope, or the assurance, that your body is going to recover and the pain will subside. For those cast into the lake of fire, there is no hope. Scripture tells us that the smoke of their torment ascends up forever, and they have no rest, day or night.

Friend, you do not have to suffer the greatest loss - you do not have to perish. If you have already placed your trust in Jesus for your salvation, let today’s Scripture drive you to share the clear Gospel with as many people as you can, so they do not have to suffer the greatest loss.
