These days it seems to me that we are always in an election cycle. No sooner do we finish a presidential election than we are bombarded with petitions and advertisements for local elections. Then our U.S. Representatives are up for reelection. The cycle never seems to end.

Very few politicians or political parties want to make our country a worse place. Most everyone wants to see their community thrive and become a better place to live. No one likes to see homelessness and crime.

The only solution to making our communities a better place is to help people understand God and His love. Political agendas are not the answer; social programs won’t make the lasting changes needed. When the Apostle Paul wrote to Philemon regarding his runaway slave Onesimus, he urged Philemon to treat Onesimus the slave with the same love that he would show to the Apostle Paul.

We need to love not just in words, but in actions. Love is more than an emotion, love is an action. That action starts with sharing the Gospel. The Gospel is the answer for what ails our society today. The Gospel is what will change our communities.

If everyone practiced agape love, we could live in a country that needs no laws. Love fulfills the law. Love covers it all. If you love other people, you aren’t going to sin against them. The problem in society is that we don’t have the love of God evidenced in our lives. God’s love works, and God’s love can change the community. It starts with us working to share that love in our communities.
