February 11, 2018

Pastor Gabe Stalnaker will be here to preach for you next Sunday,
February 18. I will be preaching for the Sovereign Grace Church in New Caney, TX where Joseph Murphy is pastor.

HYMN OF THE DAY
My Gospel

My Gospel is the good news for those chosen in God's Son.
God came in flesh in Jesus Christ providing salvation.
Providing salvation,
Providing salvation.
God came in flesh in Jesus Christ providing salvation.

My gospel declares God is Sovereign in all that He does.
He brings only those lost in sin and gives them to His Son.
And gives them to His Son,
And gives them to His Son.
He brings only those lost in sin and gives them to His Son.

It was His Covenant of Grace that made salvation sure.
He will not lose any of His. In Christ they are secure.
In Christ they are secure,
In Christ they are secure.
He will not lose any of His. In Christ they are secure.

With gifts of repentance and faith the gospel is believed.
There is only one gospel truth to set fallen men free.
To set fallen men free,
To set fallen men free.
There is only one gospel truth to set fallen men free.

Tune: "When I Can Read My Title Clear” #497

"HE SAID A LOT OF GOOD THINGS BUT"

How many times have we heard someone make this statement after listening to a preacher or reading an article? I was reading an article in our local newspaper this morning in which a person made some statements concerning God and how good he is and how people should depend on him and seek him etc. This person finished their article with this sentence; "I can only pray and hope that people will come to know God and EARN THEIR SALVATION."

You and I could have lived with all the other things this person said concerning God. But then came the poison! Then came the words that will kill you dead! "Earn their salvation"!

That last sentence was not only poison but it poisoned everything else that person said. 2% poison in rat bait makes the whole batch poison. Would any of us sat down to eat a little bowl of rat bait and try to carefully divide the 2% from the 98%? We would never think of doing such a thing.

If there is one sentence of deadly heresy in a message or article or a conversation etc. refuse it all. A little leaven leavens the whole lump. We have heard people say, "there are some things good about Catholicism". There is nothing good about it. There is poison in that pot. Go and eat at the table of Catholicism and you will die.

Do we expect the Holy Spirit to put his blessing upon heresy. He is the SPIRIT OF TRUTH. God is truth. Jesus Christ is Truth. Add a little damnable heresy to truth and the whole is poisoned. If you and I eat of it we will die.

Salvation is not earned, it is the sovereign and free gift of God. It comes to any believer freely by the grace of God through the redemption that is in Jesus Christ the Lord and only Savior (Rom. 3:24). I am certain the person who wrote the newspaper article felt like they were really encouraging people to trust in God. They had little or no idea they were poisoning to death the poor, miserable souls of those who believed what they were saying. - Bruce Crabtree

I am Magdalene, I am Zacchaeus, I am the thief, I am the harlot, I am the publican, I am the prodigal, and one of Christ’s murderers; yea, worse than any of these; and yet God was so far off from rejecting of me, as I found afterwards, that there was music and dancing in his house for me, and for joy that I was come home unto him. - John Bunyan

~~~ O ~~~
You would not even have had grace enough to know you were nothing if God had not given it to you. To be nothing is ours by nature; but to know that we are nothing and to confess that we are nothing is a gift of his grace. Brethren, we are emptier than emptiness, and more vain than vanity.
We may tax language and use extravagant hyperboles, but we shall never be able fitly to estimate our own utter insignificance. We are weakness itself, hampered with the conceit of power; and yet if we can say in truth, "The Lord is my strength," we cannot estimate how strong we are, for there is no measuring omnipotence.
(Psalms 28:7) "The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him." - Charles H. Spurgeon
~~~ O ~~~

Of old, God complained to Israel, “Thou thoughtest that I was altogether as thyself” (Psalm 50:21). Such must NOW be his indictment against an apostate Christendom. Men imagine that the Most High is moved by sentiment, rather than actuated by principle. They suppose that His omnipotency is such an idle fiction that Satan is thwarting His designs on every side. They think that if He has formed a plan or purpose at all, then it must be like ours, constantly subject to change. They declare that whatever power He possesses must be restricted, lest he invade the citadel of man’s “free will” and reduce him to a “machine.” They lower the all-efficacious Atonement, which has redeemed everyone for whom it was made, to a mere “remedy,” which sin-sick souls may use if they feel disposed to; and they enervate the invincible work of the Holy Spirit to an “offer” of the gospel. – A. W. Pink
