An overwhelming number of true Christians dream of going to Jerusalem one day. For me and my wife Haydee, that day became a reality today. After almost 24 hours of travel from our house near Manila to Bangkok, then Amman (Jordan), we finally arrived in Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv this morning (25 Aug 2017).
For almost 35 years, I have preached and taught about events that happened in land of Israel. In some ways, I know the place because of the many hours of studying the Bible and its land. I have mental images of what that land looked like from all these studies. But to finally set foot in the land of Abraham, Moses, David, Paul, Peter, and most importantly of the Lord Jesus is quite an experience.
In a way it makes the Biblical accounts more real. There is really a place where you can see Jerusalem, Bethlehem, the Jordan river, the sea of Galilee, and Capernaum. Places where great events happened in the Old and New Testament times. As we strolled around Jerusalem, we come into contact with the people which originated from the loins of Abraham. The same race from which the Lord Jesus came from.
In another sense, these people and places today are no different from others on earth. With the inauguration of the new covenant sealed with the blood of the Lamb, the presence of God is wherever there is a congregation of genuine believers in local churches. Through the Holy Spirit, He resides in the hearts of Christians and not in any man-made temple or in any specific nation.
Still, it is edifying to walk in the very land where our Biblical ancestors lived and died.

Didn’t our Lord walk in places other than Jerusalem? I am asking because of the focus on Jerusalem where our Lord was crucified.? Why don’t people tour Palestine? Didn’t Jesus walk there? Are the places listed all in Jerusalem? JUDAEA, SAMARIA, GALILEE, PHOENICIA Emmaus, Jericho, Cana, Capernaum, Chorazin, Magdala, Nazareth, Nain, Tiberias, Bethabara, Bethsaida, Tyre, Sidon. I am confused about hyped tourism to Jerusalem; where our Lord was crucified. Touring Israel is kind of a celebration. He died there in Jerusalem.
