Dim Projectors - Pastor Neal Dearyan

Today’s Scripture: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7

Many years ago, our church bought two projectors. We use them for verses, music lyrics, and videos. They worked well for a long time, but eventually, the bulbs began to fade. Because of this, we could hardly see the image on the wall. After replacing the bulbs a couple times and watching those bulbs fade quickly, we gave up on those old projectors. A brighter projector should be here Tuesday for us to test. It claims to be 50% brighter than the old ones. That would be nice.

The unsaved world around us is in darkness, but when we trust Christ, the Light (John 12:46), we have the option to walk in the light with Him. We never had that option before.

Now that we have the option, let’s do it! Look at everything we gain: we have fellowship with Him and with others. The word “fellowship” means partnership and a sense of common purpose: closeness. Do we get that with God? Yes, and also with fellow believers.

A stereotypical bar is dimly lit. Why? Because sin loves darkness. People seem to love the sense of common purposelessness they find at a bar. They are miserable, but they’re miserable with a bunch of other people who are miserable.

As Christians, we don’t need the dark to feel good. We can truly know we are close to God and others as we “walk in the light.” When we do, His blood cleanses us from all sin. Of course, the price for all sin, past, present, and future was paid on the cross, but Christians still need regular cleansing just like we need a daily shower.

Let’s not start out bright and then grow dim like our old projectors. Let’s start out “walking in the light” and stay that way all the way home.
