Today’s Scripture: Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. John 20:29

Doubting Thomas will continue to be his nickname for every generation on this side of eternity. As one of the twelve disciples, Thomas became part of some of the most amazing and influential moments in all of history. After Christ’s resurrection, Thomas would preach the gospel all over India and would die a martyr, being speared by pagan priests. 1

Rather than being remembered for something great that he did, we all recognize him from the story of the disciple who would not believe that Jesus rose again.

After Christ arose, He appeared to His disciples. However, Thomas wasn’t with them at the time. When the ten disciples that were present tried to convince Thomas, Thomas declared, “Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.” (John 20:25)

Although Thomas would regret saying that the moment he did see Jesus, God still used it for good. Thomas became proof that Jesus rose from the dead. He was so convinced that Christ did not rise that he would not even believe the ten closest people in his life.

Shortly afterward, he would be preaching that he had seen the risen Savior. If Thomas claimed He was alive, Thomas had to have seen Him. Thomas was so sure that Christ rose again that he died for this belief.

There were so many eyewitnesses that no court of law could dismiss the fact that Jesus is alive! We have so much evidence that Christ is our Savior that we should be enthusiastic to tell everyone what Jesus did for us. If God could use the doubter to carry his message to thousands, then he can use us.
