This confession puts an emphasis on our salvation without doubt. This confession lays out the difference between the Lord's Supper and the mass. Not between the ceremonies themselves. We have the assurance that we ARE forgiven of our sins. They do not confirm but question forgiveness on the basis of continual sacrificing in the mass.
The table testifies that we have FULL pardon for our sins on the ONE sacrifice of Christ on the cross! The Word of God WORKS that faith in our hearts and the Lord's Supper CONFIRMS that! The atonement is the current thought of all of scripture. The sacrifice of Christ happened once...and was full. (Hebrews7:24) In the Old Testament you had a continual sacrificing but could never be completed as the priest himself had to sacrifice for himself as well...a teaching to point to Christ's coming. When Christ, the Son of God comes, Perfect in Himself, He could make FULL satisfaction and sacrifice for sin.....Once and for all....the HEART of the GOSPEL!!!
