"Life Everlasting!" LD22b and I Peter 1:1-13 We are talking about eternal things. But how do we describe eternal things? Eye has not seen no ear heard. We are a bit hampered as scripture is limited and as words escape those who talk in scripture about the eternal. We have something more joyous though.....that the beginning of eternity is already in our hearts even continuing after death!
What is this everlasting life? Much has been written regarding, but it is a difficult question. But we do know a little about it! We already posses the joy in our hearts of that everlasting life! In John chapter 17 Christ defines life eternal. "That they might know Thee the true God and Christ." To stand in LIVING fellowship with God that He gives power to His Son to grant! This prayer describes some tremendous and meaningful spiritual fellowship. (Life everlasting.) It can ONLY be had through our Lord Jesus Christ! If you do not know Christ, you have NO fellowship with God! We can talk about life in animation as we live it on earth day to day, but life with Christ is ETERNAL life! Communion with God in our Lord Jesus Christ that will never ever end. Joy unbounded! Not just a feeling, but the KNOWLEDGE of faith that takes hold of us. (John 11- He IS the resurrection and the LIFE and those who believe in Him shall NEVER NEVER die!) Taking hold of Christ we have His life that never ends. Can we say "I can die?!"...and because He is risen we too will rise again with Him?! That IS JOY! You can then live and die in this life animation, even bury your loved ones and it is ours NOW!
Scripture ALWAYS points us to future glory and the final, perfect bliss at the end of the ages. (Not to denigrate deliverance in death to glory.) Those in glory however shall NOT be made perfect without us. Not until Christ's final coming and return as we read in I Thessalonians 13ff.
"Comfort each other with these words." Christ WILL come again. And we will meet Him in the air and have the perfection of bliss. We cannot sketch it in earthly terms except to say there will be NO tears, NO night, NO need for moon and start, etc. And it defies a description and all descriptions because it is spiritual and a mystery of faith! It is so wonderful that we cannot comprehend it!
The descriptions in scripture can symbolize that glory and the life we now posses that will show itself in that final Jerusalem. It is ours! What a joy!
One final question for you. Can you feel that joy already now? Life everlasting! Astounding, yet SURE!
