HYMN OF THE DAY
Who is Your God?
My God does just what He will
In heaven and on earth.
He owes no man anything
(as if they had some worth).
Man may question what He does;
But my God changes not.
Some say His will depends on
If some man wills or not.
There is one God who's Holy:
Eternal in the heav'ns.
Majestic in His glory,
Nothing's too hard for Him.
Called before the world began
Are those He has chosen.
They are made complete in Him.
They are not forsaken.
Nothing I have to give to Him.
He's God who has it all.
No way I have to turn Him.
I am dead by the fall.
He must show His grace to me
Or I will never know:
Salvation is of the Lord.
God Almighty doth show.
Tune: The Church's One Foundation, #186
ABOUT CASUAL WORSHIP
I believe that our thoughts of God are reflected in every part of our worship service. What part will the preaching of the Word of God have in the service? Will the truth of Christ and his saving work be the message? Are the hymns that we sing such that glorify God? Are the words true to Scripture? Are we faithful to join with God's people? Do we come on time? If late, do we come in quietly? Do we dress appropriately?
We do not set rules, and would never want to say anything that would keep anyone from coming to hear the Gospel. However, we live in a time when everyone wants to be casual, but there is nothing casual about the worship of God Almighty. - Pastor Milton Howard
What doctrine is more emptying, humbling, and therefore sanctifying!
“God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; and base (insignificant) things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: that no flesh should glory in his presence” (1 Cor. 1:27-29).
What doctrine is more emptying, humbling, and therefore sanctifying, than predestination? It lays the axe at the root of all human boasting! In the light of this truth, the most holy believer sees that there is no difference between him and the vilest sinner that crawls the earth--but what the sovereign grace of God has made! "By the grace of God I am what I am!" (1 Cor. 15:10) - Octavius Winslow
"What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.” (John 13:7). If we had God's power we would change everything--but if we had God's wisdom we would change nothing. "He hath done all things well!" (Mark 7:37) - Pastor Scott Richardson
If you and another believer, who both love the gospel of God’s free and sovereign grace in Christ, one day realize that you do not have the same understanding of a particular point of doctrine please do not think it means either of you are suddenly unbelievers! God give us grace to never put a certain necessary level of knowledge between the sinner and Christ. That is no different than salvation by works. Salvation is not what (or how much) we know but WHO! “Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.” “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.” (1 Cor. 4: 5; 13: 12) - Pastor Clay Curtis
Some believe that “what is to be will be.” This is not faith but mere fatalism. Faith is always associated with God and what He has said in His word! This word says, “all things are of God.” Not some impersonal force or fate but the will and work of God. Most of all, all things of salvation, the salvation of His people, and all the things necessary to accomplish it, are of God IN CHRIST JESUS and HIM CRUCIFIED! - Gary Shepard
