Praise in the Wildnerness

When I remember Thee upon my bed, and meditate upon Thee in the night watches.” Psalm 63:6

Most folks these days live full, busy lives. There are many responsibilities and activities. Sadly, because of this busyness, we sometimes do not cultivate a communion and fellowship with God as we ought. Maybe because He is not visible and vocally calling for our attention, we sometimes neglect Him. Needless to say, this should not be!

David wrote this psalm while in the wilderness of Judah, as he was running away from his enemies' violent pursuit. David may have been thinking about strategy of how to keep one step ahead of his pursuers. He probably missed his family, and longed for a day when he could live in quietness and peace. Yet, we admire David's spirit of worship towards God in the middle of these circumstances.

In the above verse, David “remembered” God. He consciously set his mind towards Him. He reflected on God's goodness and past deliverances. He thought about the sweetness of God's lovingkindness. Let us follow David's example, in filling our minds with God's word, and consciously meditating on His goodness. This may lead you to be like David, in roaming through some wilderness in your life, but doing so with a heart of praise and joy in your God.
