When I was a boy, my mom often told me that she would "Jerk a Knot in my Tail." Now, I knew what that meant. It meant, if I continued in my current action or attitude, she would apply an attitude ajustment with a switch or flyback paddle. Generally, her message was received very quickly. Today, I had a conversation with a fellow pastor. He encouraged me of the need to continue to write my blog. When he finished, I told him, he had Jerked a Knot in my Tail. I don't know if he knew what that meant. However, he was just the messenger to remind me what the Holy Spirit had been telling me. For that I am thankful for a friend who is willing to be iron which sharpens iron.
It is great to have friends who will be an encouragement. It is great to have someone to keep you accountable. It is great to have a friend that will Jerk a Knot in Your Tail when it is needed. Do you have that type of friend? Are you that type of friend? You should have! You should Be!
Finally, let me talk about accountability. Last night at the park, I ran into a few people from a resisidential drug rehad program with which I work. The subject of accountability came up. When the residents there begin to mature in their walk with Christ, they are given priviledges. One of the residents told me, "I would hope that if you see one of the residents out in public and they are doing something which you think is against the house rules, that you would question us about it. It is very important for us to have people who will keep us accountable."
Accountability is important for all of us. We are accountable. We will be held accountable. Hopefully, you are mature enough to receive reproof from your brother or sister in Christ. Hopefully, you are mature enough to receive rebuke and correction if you need it.
Maybe, it will not require someone to "Jerk a Knot in Your Tail," but will you listen to a word fittly spoken knowing the intent is to only help you walk faithfully with Christ?
Hopefully, this doesn't Jerk a Knot in Your Tail!!
On second thought, if a knot needs Jerked, I hope it does!
