Jesus was not welcomed, not wanted, and not understood in his own town of Nazareth. Unbelief is a horrible thing that sends millions to Hell. I know of nothing else that causes as much trouble as the sin of unbelief. Christ said in Matthew 13:58, “And he did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief.” Luke tells us that he did heal just a few sick before he departed, but sin causes man to miss most of his blessings so many times. He could not do many mighty works in Nazareth because of their unbelief. What a shame! Oh, the things that might have been… unbelief defeated Nazareth!

The word of God tells us that the rich young ruler came close, but missed Heaven because he did not believe salvation to be as important as having money in his pocket.

Felix trembled when Paul preached to him, but did not put his trust in Jesus. Unbelief was his greatest enemy. Agrippa said to Paul in Acts 26:28, “Then Agrippa said unto Paul, almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.” He was almost but lost for eternity. To miss Heaven by one inch is as bad as a mile.

Unbelief caused Sodom and Gomorrah to bun down. Japan and allies did not believe in a true and living God when they dropped bombs on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. Unbelief that causes dads to get hooked on drugs, alcohol, and other sins, do not believe in God who says we should abstain. Kids go hungry because of unbelieving dads and mothers who love sin and know not God. Unbelief in God causes wars.

Unbelief takes away man’s opportunity to live a happy Christian life and have Heaven for eternity. What could be worse?

An unbeliever has a natural fear of death all of his life time, and he has a right to fear going to such a terrible place called Hell.
