John UK wrote: How nicely put, Dolores. Thank you. This is what it is all about, this Christianity. It focuses on the love of God and love for God and his creation. It is a big mistake to love only those we agree with. Jesus taught about doing that, and it being no different from the heathen. Christians have a better thing to do, to love even their enemies; but especially to love those of the household of faith. It is by this, that we know we have passed from death unto life. Such pious sentiments. Of course the true test of love is within the environment of a church where one has to live and work alongside other believers with their imperfections, idiosyncrasies, foibles and weird views, with less than perfect leaders etc but recognising their blood bought status and that Christ is the head of that church and ruling by and through his word. Making allowances for imperfections, living with them all with understanding, seeking their sanctification and the salvation of those around in the neighbourhood and seeking to aid further gentle reformation within the church instead of the highmindedness that insists on instant change or else. Such love requires long term commitment, patience, hope and real faith. And this poor John will not understand. |
