The Gospel and our TheologyThis week I might unintentionally ruffle a few feathers. That is not my purpose; rather I want, by the following article, to once more urge us to a full return to the Gospel. Thank God for sound doctrine and theology--may they increase and flourish. However, our theology, no matter how pure it is, is not the Gospel. The Gospel, rather, is about the God/Man, Jesus the Christ. It is about the invasion of time and space by God manifest in the flesh. It is about His doing and dying on our behalf. And this gospel is already full; it is perfect and finished; there is nothing in it that should be out of it and nothing out of it that should be in it. Thus, although good doctrine and theology is vital for our growth and stability, it cannot and must not become our High Priest and supposed acceptance before God. |
