It may be more interesting to see sermons posted on SermonAudio in support of some political issue. That would show that the pastor doesn't mind putting at risk the 501(c)3 status of their corporation (i.e., church). The IRS website has plenty of info on this section of their code, and how much political action or lobbying can be taken.I think most pastors don't want to even get close to it, so naturally they will not be standing in front of a congregation to tell them what they will not do. It would be like asking them, give me a simple yes/no answer: 'have you stopped beating your wife?' to which there is no good answer: yes, means you did beat your wife, no-you are still beating your wife. Or, if you are married, your wife buys a very expensive new dress and asks you, "Does this dress make me look fat?" |

Hello Dave of Oz-Australia: you mean, the aborigines and Maori worship in the same churches with everyone else? Just kidding. Thomas Sowell, author and columnist for conservative sources here, has written an excellent book on ethnicity that tells the story of racism in many parts of the world. One thing I learned from it is that the Chinese are the most discriminated people across the world--they are hated in many places. I do remember a news story about rioting in Malaysia (or was it the Philippines?) over them. After the riots ended, the govt. decided to pass a law saying the Chinese couldn't own so many businesses. THen they had another problem--the nationals or natives--did not pick up the slack, so there were shortages in the economy. I don't remember if they repealed their earlier law. And then there is Dr. Howard Sala of the Guidelines radio program, who has worked in the Philippines for many years. He was asked by Americans how to tell apart the different Asians. He said it is easy, if they are interested in working hard, saving money, building up businesses, then they are Chinese. If they are very smart and more interested in intellectual things (like sudoku puzzles, scientific research) then they are Japanese. |

This study only proves that a bunch of German women were upset in the first year of being a new parent. It needs to be duplicated in other countries, across a variety of religious settings (Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Native American, Republican) to see if it is applicable to all people. But no one pays attention to this and instead is using this study to prove that their lifestyle--be it single, divorced, sodomite, etc.---is the best. It does show that Germany (and many other European countries) have a big problem in that their people think child-raising is such a pain in the neck. |

To clarify the points I was making earlier, since it seems not everyone understood. 1. Social Security is a Fact of Life--very hard to excuse yourself, set up your private account. I think ministers can declare themselves 'off the system' by making it a religious issue. 2. The US Govt is keeping track of every dollar you make for that 35-Year History. Every dollar you do not 'declare' (like waiters who don't report all their tips) will not count in that 35 yr history. Every year a mother is out of the workforce is counted as a big 0, which lowers the 35 yr average. 3. Families in US who make below a certain income level, say $45k for a family of 4, do not pay Federal Income Tax, and in fact receive Federal Monies back--Earned Income Credit. Dave Ramsey's Radio Hour on Taxes was referring to Federal Income Tax, not State, Local, Property, Estate, Inheritance, Sales taxes. He emphasized how large a percentage of the US population was not paying any Federal Income Tax. Therefore, a homeschooling family who makes less money is not paying Federal Taxes--and so who does pay for the Federal Budget? It must be those who make more money, singles, etc. In effect, they are supporting the homeschooling families. The issue of College Education is another one that needs to be dealt with. |

Problem with homeschooling--who does it? Usually, I would guess the mother does it. Therefore, 'single mothers need not apply.' Also, I have heard of another, maybe related movement towards mothers leaving the workforce. Some economists can say that, when you take out the cost of commuting, lunches, dry cleaning, taxes, etc, the end wage is more like minimum wage (and this was before the "Living Wage" movement started). But one thing that is forgotten in this calculation is Lifetime Social Security Earnings. The Great Secret of Social Security that many neglect is that it is based on your 35-year work history. For example, if a mother works 10 yrs, then stays home 10 yrs, works another 15 yrs, then for the stay-home yrs, her Soc. Sec. record is 0, and this reduces the overall Soc. Sec. payout which is based on the Average of the 35-year work history. I think more people need to look at this 35-yr Average before assuming it is always better for the mother to stay home. |
