re: Brazil racism--if you look deeper you might find it in the way they consider hair and eye color, and look at the political and business leaders--they will all be light-skinned and with light eyes. Many Latin women would love to have children with blonde hair and blue eyes.
re: racism in general--the Chinese have been discriminated against around the world; I remember there were riots in an Asian country (Indonesia? Singapore? Philippines?) over their 'control' over small businesses. So they passed a law against them. Thomas Sowell wrote a book about this on ethnicity where he goes into it.
Another source of info is the website for American Renaissance. Their thesis is that there is no country in the world where races mix harmoniously.

It's too bad that the Pope didn't do any campaign rallies for Sanders since they share the same ideas of redistribution of wealth.
It would be interesting if the Catholic Church were to really endorse Sanders across the board, but that is just wishful thinking.
Accept the fact that Hillary has gotten the nomination and the convention will be interesting to see how far left SAnders and his supporters can make her platform go. I hope they win a lot of points because it will make it easier to vote against her, for me and for many who are sitting on the fence (mugwumps).

Let's see, Obama quotes the Bible. The Devil quoted the Word when he tempted Jesus in the wilderness! So that makes Obama....you figure it out!

1. I check the source--I've never heard of this 'christian headlines' website, so I doubt many others have either. If this story had been posted on a major internet news site, I would give it more credence. As it is, it is a tiny site in a backwaters, with few people reading it. I doubt any talk show hosts will even mention it. Therefore, this story is a tiny pebble dropping in a big pond.
2. Who is Russell Moore? I have never heard of him! Not to say I am all knowing, but I think I am familiar with many major Christian leaders. If one of them came up to the stand to say what is said here, maybe it would be a bigger pebble in the pond.
3. Today is Election Day in many states, and though Trump and Hillary have already won enough votes to get their nominations, there will still be major coverage of the elections.
4. Trump doesn't depend on Moore or his group for votes. They didn't support him in all the previous primary elections, where he beat many other candidates, even my favorite one.
I may be going out on a limb on this idea, but I think that Trump has woken up a large group of people, not all Christian or evangelical, not all KJV-only folk, who voted for him.
Look at previous elections to see that most of the adults able to register to vote, do not vote at all!

My first thought was--boy, it must have been very hard to find those women! So I checked the table of figures in the story and found it astonishing that, for example, women with 10 or more sexual partners before marriage made up 18 percent of the group, while in the 1970s, those women made up only 2 percent!

At the other end of the table, women who had 0 sexual partners (though you might squabble over whether they could be called 'virgins' if many youth today consider what Monica did to former President Bill Clinton to be 'not sex') now make up only 5 percent of the group, while in the 1970s they were 21 percent.

"Nothing new to see hear, folks," is what you could say after comparing this story to Paul's experience in Athens, where they spent all their time searching after what was new.

Man hasn't changed much over the years, though the technology has. Perhaps there is an addictive aspect to having the info so readily accessible, especially in places where you don't have lots of personal contact (compare to Paul looking at the Athenians talking with each other, inquiring about what is new. I don't think they sat around in sidewalk cafes, sipping coffee and reading the daily newspapers.
There used to be a morning and evening newspaper in many large cities, and people would read both!)

I could even cite an example at church where I saw one person 'drop out' of an active conversation that involved him at the start.
When it wasn't him doing the talking or being questioned, he picked up his phone and started reading it, and he is not a heart surgeon waiting for a call from the hospital.

I have noticed small, independent bookstores do well when they are heavily promoted with special events like music recitals, author signings, etc. They make going out for a book a social event more than just going to look up a specific item (which you can do easily online).
Many books are now available online for free downloads, so you can fill up your time with them.
But someone's recent comment below about social media taking up time is well taken. I read an article from Michael Hyatt, a Christian work advice podcaster and author, who was advising people to rest more, to not use their laptops on the weekend.

I don't think he included smartphones, though, and I have seen people in a conversation (yes, even in a church building) use their smartphones to disengage from the conversation. It was as if he was saying, I'm not interested in what you 2 or 3 are saying, so let me check my social media or emails.
It's one thing to use the phone to look up a question or a song lyric that you are talking about, or to locate a place you are trying to remember while you are talking.
I know people who say they don't use a laptop or other computer at home at all; it's all done with the phone.

I think not all Christians in the beautiful state of North Carolina agree with Nancy from California--I read that statistics show that there are more children being home-schooled in North Carolina than are being sent to private schools.

That's an interesting fact, and it makes you wonder why it happens.

Could it be that not all private schools teach a Christian doctrine that parents want?

Could it be an expense problem--that it is cheaper for one parent to stay home and home-school than to work at a second job to help pay for private schooling?

I've heard on financial advice radio shows that the math doesn't work out within our current tax system where, for example, a couple with a $100k/yr. income is taxed at a rate more than double a $50k/yr. income, so that extra job is not really helping out as much.

Or are there large numbers of sects like the Amish that do not send their kids to govt. schools or private schools? I've read that even Muslims will send their kids to their own private schools.

I've noticed an interesting phenomenon in my area--Hispanics like to give their baby girls earrings as soon as they can, so they pierce their ears. Doctors noticed this and decided to move up their standard vaccination shots so they can get them done before the parents get their ears pierced. I've spoken on this issue with a Hispanic lady, not yet a mother, who insisted that she would give the girl pierced ears no matter what the doctors said.
In other words, the cultural mandate in her mind was much more important than modern medical advice.

More power to them!
I think it would be fun, like having an illustrated Bible.
I have a hard time understanding emojis, so it has no appeal for me.

Diamonds are a good example of the power of advertising. What Christopher says in a previous comment is very true, and much of the cost of the diamond goes to advertising, but the rest is profit--'extreme profits' that our millenial friends love to complain about some companies making (but not Apple, Starbucks, or Whole Food Mkts, their 3 favorites).
It is time for some Christian leader to stand up to 'just say no' to the use of diamonds in wedding and engagement rings. You would think this is a 'slam dunk' decision since there is nothing in the Bible that dictates you have to spend 4 months of your gross salary on an engagement ring.
Besides, it smells so bad of prostitution--you get what you pay for--that is reason enough to denounce it.

Good to know that the New American, organ of the John Birch Society, is still in operation.

Did you know that much of the coffee consumed in the world comes from Vietnam, especially in instant coffee and the cheaper 'robusta' varieties?

Many countries in the area are worried about the expansion of China into the South CHina Sea (see Spratley Islands), after the US military was kicked out of Subic Bay in the Philipines.

I've read that the 'unlikability quotient' on both Hillary and Donald are the highest that have ever been noted in recent elections.
I wonder will that mean that many people will not turn out to vote?
It does make you wonder--how did we get to this point? Who voted for Donald? Obviously, more people did than voted for the other guys.
So then you have to ask--what types of people are they? I listen to various talk radio programs and hear some of them, but I wonder why I don't see more articles on what makes up this large voting bloc.

You could say it is a battle of AARP vs. the Christians, since KFC's founder--Colonel Sanders--had retired but was bored with that rocking chair on the porch. He got off the porch and went out to found the restaurant chain.
Meanwhile Chick-fil-A is getting a lot of customers who feel they are making a big moral statement by eating there. Same thing with the millenials shopping at Hole Foods.
As long as they live in their parent's basements, or have their parents pay for their 'college-plus' student loans, they can afford that.

But I bet you Chick-fil-A does not have the KFC fingernail polish that tastes like....yes, chicken!

Here's some Bible support for the quiet living out of Christianity:

James 1:27
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

And Paul said in his first letter to Timothy that our goal is to live a quiet life.

And, by the way, have you noticed how few people are commenting on the sermons on this website: yesterday only 4 comments posted, May 25, 24, and 23--nine posted each day, Sunday May 22-five, May 21-three, May 20-five. Why do you think that is?

While this happened, their President Correa was on vacation in Rome, doing some shopping. And I thought the country was not so well off, though I have seen articles about how it is recommended as a good place to retire abroad.
One Ecuadorean I knew of used to boast of how cheap the food was and the variety.

Is the glass half-full or half-empty? Depends on your view on the world, I suppose. Some say there is a revival going on in West Virginia. Others point at the growth of churches in Africa. I read a book about how there was more Christians in the Southern Hemisphere than in the Northern Hemisphere, which goes against what people think of when they see the big cathedrals in France or England (little do they know that there is very little real activity in them). I used to watch a program of organ music where the lady played in many of these European places, but you never would see a congregation singing while she played.
Some people here are excited about the Presidential elections, thinking their religious viewpoints will be promoted.
I don't think their enthusiasm is shared by the majority of voters, which has led to Trump being the leader of one party, and the other side...well the Clintons never promoted themselves as moral or Christian, so let's not go there!
The Christian viewpoint on any of the major social issues--abortion, homosexuality, now the bathroom sharing issue, etc--is simply not being respected.

And I thought I was wasting my time watching the old "Munsters" TV show with 'Grandpa' trying to do the same thing as these scientists. Next thing you know, they will start using parts of cadavers in surgeries on living human beings!

Is there a rule for the BBC that they are not allowed to broadcast any news item that might cast aspersions on the Queen or any of her kin? There was something foolish that Prince A or B did a while back, and nothing was said about it on the BBC, while all other news channels had full-on coverage.
Yet many people listen to the BBC as if they were broadcasting the 'gospel truth.' I listen to their 'top of the hour' news summary on radio, but not as the only source. It's like watching Japan's NHK network news program that our local PBS station airs--of course, they are not going to admit any wrong doing by the Japanese in anyplace, like their killing and eating whales, their invasion of China, their mistreatment of Korean women, and so on. They hold up the visit of Obama to Hiroshima as their personal triumph!
