Well, I call it as I see it, and I see it as nuts. It violates the spirit of the sermon on the mount, which throughout most of the suffering pilgrim church history was THE standard of conduct for Christians. The way I see it is that the era of the we "do church" is coming to an end, and God is calling His remnant out of what has become Laodicea, and preparing His people for the sufferings to come. The traditional Church mode is going by the wayside, and something different is coming about. You can't put new wine into old wine skins. That's my view and I'm sticking to it.😇

This is nuts! Just giving the authorities an excuse to raid churches when persecution becomes the law of the land. I suspect that Pastors and leaders are reluctant to scatter their flocks into smaller less visible groups because they don't want to give up control of their little empires, and allow the Holy Spirit to appoint and teach other Pastors and leaders for small groups. This one man showmanship has to stop! Carrying guns like this will only cause the world to say "see I told you so! They're just a bunch of radical right wing terrorists!" This is NOT the spirit of the true gospel.

Fire, Fire, Fire! Rome burned, Pompei burned with volcanic flows, Nazi Germany burned with incendiary bombing, Imperial Japan burned with incendiary bombing and nuclear holocaust, the American South burned with the flames of civil war; Richmond, Colombia SC, and a large swathe of fire through Georgia, Stalingrad bombed and burned to smithereens. All these were guilty of serious violations of God's laws. We in 21st century America are certainly not immune, and the warnings are loud and clear.

Wow. For some reason that post from "noj" didn't appear in my thread or whatever. Only your reply Lurker contained it. I expected some friction over it, but not a rant like that. I'm really a little surprised at the vitriol. Thanks Lurker for your support and posting of the truth.

I have not heard from any of these comments the spirit of the Sermon on the mount; "Love your enemies and pray for those that persecute you". All that I hear is mocking, and ridicule. If we respond in that manner, we will only receive the same. Paul's response to the idolatry in Athens was much more conciliatory and in the spirit of a peacemaker. Read Acts 17:16-34; Paul sought points of contact from his knowledge of the Greek worldview, there is no hint of mockery or ridicule, but only an appeal as an ambassador of God for all men to repent and believe the Gospel. We who haven't experienced serious opposition or persecution have much to learn in this regard. Lord make me an instrument of your mercy and love for all men, and help to correct with gentleness those that are opposed!

Yeah it sure is. I saw the same trends in myself; the narcissism, the almost irresistible temptation to debate, continuous postings of opinions and dogmatism, the saying of things to family and friends that one wouldn't dare say face to face, hiding behind the media. Yep, not a good scene. Found a way to permanently delete Facebook and actually went through a little withdrawal. It was well worth it. Now I find myself tired of all the voices out there in cyberspace and am increasingly drawn to quiet, and rejection of all the voices, even the good ones. There is really only One voice I want to hear, that being the voice of the Lord through His word and prayer. Interesting that when Israel was overrun by the Midianites(in Hebrew means strife or contention) that Gideon hid alone in a wine press to thresh out the grain!

Legal or not anything mind altering is going to wreck one's faith, morals, and family; and by extension one's church, community, and country. The issue is not defending, or condemning the legalization, but is much closer to home in the sense of knowing the dangers ourselves, and teaching them to our families, churches, and that by extension would filter into our communities, and nation. Our problem is that we have "rejected the fountain of living waters" who is Jesus Christ, the joy of man's desire.

I just sat down and opened my Bible, and this is the first thing that met my eye: "They will be put to shame and even humiliated, all of them; The manufacturers of idols will go away together in humiliation." (Isaiah 45:16)

Consider this: "On an appointed day Herod, having put on his royal apparel, took his seat on the rostrum and began delivering an address to them. The people kept crying out, " The voice of a god and not of a man!" (Acts 12:21-22) According to Josephus, this Herod had donned a robe woven with silver thread to reflect the sun. Hence he shone, and the people were deceived into thinking he was divine. This appears to be a good scriptural example of a man using the technology of his time to portray himself as divine. These types of situations in scripture, and in history, are examples of the "many antichrists" that John wrote of. All these point to the ultimate antichrist. But let's not forget their end; "And immediately an angel of the Lord struck him because he did not give God the glory, and he was eaten by worms and died." (Acts 12:23)

I did say that, quoting Rev. 13:15: "And it was given to him(the false prophet) to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would even speak and cause as many as do not worship the image of the beast to be killed." I may not have been the only one quoting that, but nevertheless it fits like a glove; never in history has this been more possible than now. This is, and will be idolatry taken to it's ultimate deception. Look up to the LIVING God, your redemption draws near!

“ Great Sermon! ”
This conversation/discussion demonstrates to the degree that we all as Christians are very likely to build an idol in our hearts and try to justiy it towards ourselves, the church, our pastors, and most of all to God. Just read chapter 14 of Ezekiel. We should all be so careful to tear down the idols in our own hearts that interfere with truly following Christ.

Yeah, everything is based on "consensus", or "majority rule"; the only absolutes in their minds.

This is a blatant denial of obvious physical tangible observable facts. I believe the term for this syndrome would be "delusional ". This is madness. But don't you dare question their sacred cow of evolution; you will be accused of denying the hard facts of science! They are absolutely whacked out! It's really hard to believe that people actually think this way!

This is just Planned Parenthood being true to the vision of it's founder Margaret Sanger as Ladybug so aptly posted. The essence of Nazism remains alive; and Nazism itself was only one of many political manifestations of Baal worship that have surfaced over the millennia. Simply paganism and the worship of things earthly.

"And it was given to him to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast would even speak and cause as many as do not worship the image of the beast to be killed." (Rev. 13:15) Here it is, and has been for almost 2000 years. Never made much sense to previous generations, but now it jumps off the page and hits you in the face. But no.....this is just the imaginary writings of some religious madman! Who could make this up? Stay tuned; more religious madmen writings are about to jump out at us!

Both Larson, and Carter, are mentioned in the article as unmarried and yet each having two children. Are they divorced? Widowed, or widower? Not that it matters to these people that reject the plain text of scripture. This place, and many like it, is not a church but a corporation being run in the philosophy of Peter Drucker, a leading secular corporate philosopher who had a major influence on Hybels and Rick Warren. I wouldn't even call this Christianity anymore. These people need evangelized with the true gospel as much as anyone else in this fallen world.

Christopher, yep the Benny Hinns and the Bob Larsen out there certainly have brought shame to the whole body. I once attempted to politely confront Bob Larsen in person to his face. He would not even answer me. But isn't that what Paul was doing with the lunacy in the Corinthian church? He was merely teaching the way of decency and order to a church that was heading down the Benny Hinn road. But he never taught them to reject spiritual gifts altogether, only to test all things, reject what is false and evil, and to hold to that which is good with dignity and order.

To any and all who are following this thread; as usual Jesus nails it with His teaching: "For there is no good tree which produces bad fruit, nor, on the other hand, a bad tree which produces good fruit." (Luke 6:43) David Wilkerson, and many other Pentecostal preachers have produced much food fruit. And to the assertion that any charismatic Christian never refutes false doctrines; that simply is not true. I know of many that are on the front lines of defending the faith, and that in a most learned and scholarly venue. I must add that I myself don't claim any charismatic gifts, but I will defend those that do. The sovereign Holy Spirit distributes these gifts as He sees fit. We can't throw the baby out with the bath water. And I fully
Agree with Paul in asserting that I would rather speak five words of instruction with my mind, than ten thousand words in a tongue.

I must assert one more important point and then I put this whole thing to rest. On your doctrinal premise, you would place David Wilkerson on the level of a charlatan. Actually he was one of the more fruitful preachers of the 20th century, and God used him to bring thousands to Christ, and to save many out of the dregs of society. He was also an unabashed charismatic, Spirit-filled Pentecostal. Have you ever read "The Cross and the Switchblade"? Have you heard of Teen Challenge? These were hugely influential in bringing me to Christ as teenager. Have you ever listened to any of his sermons? If you ever do, I think you will find that in know way could that man be lumped in with maniacal lunatics that counterfeit the true gifts of the Spirit. It seems that your experience in Christianity has been narrowly denominational; there is much more happening out there than just conservative baptists; understanding that I appreciate the jealous guarding against hyper-charismania that the Baptists have engaged in. But the fact remains that these gifts are real and contemporary.
