Sermon:
Infant Baptism Cannot Save
Larry Phillips

comment
“ ”
Infant baptism and baptismal regeneration ARE NOT one and the same. Infant baptism IS NOT a denial of Romans 9:13. Baptismal regeneration IS a denial of Romans 9:13. To equate the two is an error all too common among those who seek to deny the covenant sign to covenant children.

Goodbye to all of you Calvinists and KJV only folks. I have been agonizing in prayer and studying much on these issues and come to the conclusion that I flatly reject Calvinism and KJV only, and that I am much more doctrinally in line with the Wesleyan/Arminiani tradition. Therefore I cannot waste any more of my time on this site and will be deleting the app. There is coming a great shaking wherein all that can be shaken will be, and only the truth and good will remain. We will all know then what is true and good. Farewell

And so you would agree that if the law of the land was death for those teaching heresy, that you would uphold that? Where did Jesus or the Apostles ever teach such a thing? As a matter of fact, the setting up of a theocracy brutally enforcing "church discipline " is diametrically opposed to the teaching and spirit of the New Testament. THAT to me is heresy. But in know would I endorse civil authorities being involved and enforcing penalties recommended by the church. A heretic must be removed from teaching and involvement with the flock, but civil penalties? I challenge you to support any these assertions from you he New Testament. As far as David is concerned, that was a God ordained theocracy under the Old Covenant, a new Covenant is now in force that the scriptures make clear is not like the Old. It is all now of the heart, and the spirit. No, you can keep your Calvinism, I'll stick to the New Testament thank you.

I'll never understand why Calvin is placed upon a pedestal. The only thing he succeeded in doing was replacing one theocratic police state with another. And to have whole so called "Baptist" denominations and churches base their foundational doctrines on Calvinism is beyond me. He reminds me very much of an unregenerate Saul of Taurus standing by, holding the cloaks of those stoning Stephen to death. Calvin did very much the same thing to a man named Servetus, burning him at the stake. Servetus cried out to Jesus in his death agony, just as Stephen did. No I want nothing to do with Calvin and his doctrines, nor do I need it. I have everything I need in the teaching of the Apostles, Gospels, the Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms. I'll never understand those who call themselves "Baptists" respecting a man who persecuted the Anabaptists, who were allegedly their spiritual forefathers.

Session was helpful. It is interesting to hear these topics discussed. Many churches are not even thinking of these issues.

A few points then I rest this issue: 1. I made sure to say "reportedly" concerning James being a homosexual. 2. The most important archaeological find in recent history is the Dead Sea Scrolls. A virtual complete book of Isaiah dating 200-150 B.C. is among those finds and agrees almost word for word with the Masoretic translation on which most modern versions such as NASV,RSV, are based. 3. Concerning the NT; I quote from A NT Survey by Robert Gundry:"..the KJV appeared in 1611. But the earliest and best manuscripts had not yet been discovered..A large contribution has come from the study of numerous papyri found during the last 150 yrs. As a result, numerous versions have appeared in recent times such as the RV, ASV,RSV etc." Although I acknowledge the time honored value of the KJV, I firmly believe that the versions mentioned are more accurate, not to mention easier to understand in light of 17th century English being very difficult to understand by your average believer. To avoid misunderstanding; I am firmly wary of the less scholarly "translations" such the Living Bible, NIV, The Message etc. I view these as opinionated paraphrases rather than translations, The NIV less so however. The jist here is the Gos has given His reliable word to every generation of believers.

Here's something to think about: The Apostles and other authors of the New Testament wrote in Greek. Furthermore, when quoting the Old testament, they quoted the Septuagint, which is a Greek translation of the Hebrew Old Testament. Furthermore, the author of the book of Jude quoted apocryphal literature from the book of Enoch, and referred to another apocryphal tale from the book of Jubilees regarding the body of Moses. The apocryphal literature was all translated into, or written in Greek at various times in inter-testamental or early New Testament times. With all the foregoing in mind; how can we possibly think that the KJV, a translation largely from the Latin Vulgate, and endorsed by a persecuting, reportedly homosexual Roman Catholic King is without error, and to be held above all translations? There are plenty of errors in the KJV, as in other translations; but the main themes are uncompromised, and also in other solid translations. To say that the KJV is the only acceptable translation is tantamount to saying that the Apostles writings in Greek were imperfect until translated into English! Nonsense! it actually is the other way around, and we find the more perfect and precise meaning when researching the Greek meaning! This KJV only issue has always driven me nuts!

When I saw this channel appear on my DirectTV guide my first thought was "Oh boy, another Satanic cult gone mainstream." Mormonism has gone mainstream, the prosperity gospel has gone mainstream and even appears to be endorsed in the White House with the likes of Paula White and Kenneth Copeland holding prayer meetings with the president. And of course Catholicism has been mainstream for decades. Add to the mixture the History Channel's relentless push to accept other worldly beings in their series "Ancient Aliens", and then consider that the electronic media is where it seems that most people are getting their education; we certainly have a spiritual/cultural disaster looming that is disturbing at best, and downright frightening at worse. Look up, our hope is in the Truth, which is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself! Hang on to your printed page Bibles, as I firmly believe that a time is coming when that will be the ONLY source of truth!

Benny Hinn want's persecution? Is he nuts? Jesus taught us to flee persecution whenever possible. The Lord's prayer also is specific in teaching us pray NOT to be led into temptation [the Greek term having the connotation of "testing"]. Jesus Himself prayed for the cup to be removed from Him if possible. No, I don't trust Mr. Hinn, and in my mind his statements in this article probably have some ulterior motive that I can't fathom.

Oh my! Horror of horrors! If this teacher is allowed to continue this practice, these children might be exposed to critical thinking! My my my! we can't have them examining these atheist's statements claiming that there is no controversy in the "scientific" community concerning evolution and then find these claims to be false! Nosiree! Keep those children in lockstep!

People are out of their minds (ha! No pun intended!) to dismiss the warnings from scripture concerning the mark and the image of the beast. Not to mention the historical examples of "mind control " through propaganda. When unbelievers, and nominal deceived Christians mock these things it is becoming increasingly clear that they do so at there own peril! Be sober, be alert!

Thanks Frank for your encouragement. Please allow me to offer a little further clarification of my view on this subject; that being the fact that I spent most of my adult life working full time as a Paramedic. Having seen my share of injured and dead children probably made somewhat hyper-safety sensitive. Hence my serious approach to teaching my children. Not to mention my own reckless streak as a child and teenager!

Sorry if I gave the same impression of some out of control wild, reactive parent. You are absolutely correct in your approach, however when life threatening safety behavior is at stake, their may not be another chance at a firm warning and so the severity of the situation may need to be driven home with a spanking. But nobody is suggesting a loss of temper wild thrashing.
