It is a lovely area, John. Bude is very popular. Of unusual interest is the freshwater canal which runs into the sea via locks. I'd never seen one before nor since.
Being a techie-guy I'd like to see that canal--and the old tin mines if/whenever I get over there. Before my dad went there, all I'd heard about Cornwall was the tin mining that took place there.

"Simple propositions" are often not so simple to follow through on.

The Solendra debacle looks like another example where "simple propositions" and high hopes were thought by Obama and his people to be enough to overcome the odds against industrial success in that particular market.

Wow. Yet another article covering the legitimization of sexual perversion in modern society. Homosexuals and their allies sure seem to be dominating mainstream media these days.

I hope Lurker is right. Otherwise this current downhill trend could just be Satan "wearing-out" the saints and overcoming them just prior to Christ's second coming as taught in the book of Revelation.

Back in the 1980s my dad worked for Lockheed in or around Bude, Cornwall. The locals called the building where my dad worked "the spy base" because it was surrounded by giant satellite dish antennas and was a high security (black project) area. He was there long enough to acquire lots of Cornwall paraphernalia, much of it with likenesses of Charles and Dianna, they being the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall. Wish I could've gone with him. Looks like a neat place.

Maybe we need to teach our young people to be more rational and objective, instead of just sitting back and allowing them to "feel" this way or that way about important issues and institutions like church, government, etc.

I actually lost count of the number of times the word or concept of "feeling" was mentioned in this short article, indicative of our overly sensual culture, I think.

I agree with Don. Obama's true religion is the religion of Expediency, which is a common faith among politicians.

He's pro-choice, which no real Christian would support; and he's pro-gay rights, which no real Muslim would support.

$16 muffins? My first thought was that security and food-tasting fees had skyrocketed because of terror threats, significantly adding to the value of these meats.

But then I remembered the $500.00 hammers and other such overpriced items purchased by government and/or their contractors back in the 1980s to manipulate costs and money requirements of various departments.

Looks like they're still doing it.

My grandfather was a teacher in rural Illinois back in the 1920s, and his superintendent urged him to "really lay the wood (paddle) on them (the students)" if they even started to misbehave. That generation of kids grew up to become the so-called "greatest generation" by many people these days. Current generations could learn a lot more from previous ones as long as they don't automatically presume them to be less "enlightened".

This is part hatred-of-God and part love-of-state, with its creeping bureaucracy replacing not only God's authority but also much of what's left of human responsibility these days. I recently read somewhere that a couple of kids got arrested for setting up a lemon aid stand because they didn't have a food vendors license, which costs about $500.00.

Really? I can't imagine that there'd be enough traffic up there to justify such a project. Then again, as a casual watcher of The History Channel's Ice Road Truckers program, I can see that the economic desire to tap Canada's and Russia's vast resources way up there would be more than enough to motivate such a project. It would be a neat way to "beat" the poor weather and rough seas they have to deal with now.

Exploiting more of our own natural resources would certainly create more jobs, as graphically stated on the sign held by one congressman during Obama's speech, but points made by Mark and Scott below lead me to believe that some if not many of the jobs created this way could still be outsourced (i.e. clerical, accounting, and any other such position that does not require the employee to be actually on-site).

Many of the widows in the military retirement home where my dad lives receive significant amounts of money in the form of survivor benefits, which they would lose if they were to re-marry, which makes it extremely tempting for them to co-habitate instead. It's so sad that such a well-intentioned benefit should end up being such a huge stumbling block for these people.

S.F. John, no, we don't need either of them, if the dame gets nominated it will guarantee Obama's election, If Rick Perry gets the nomination, and by some punishment from God, gets elected, we will get to see Tom Delay II
excerpt from, ]]Brooks: President Rick Perry?
Too bad Mr. Brooks didn't remember the oligarchy of Texas politicians and the leaders of the oil companies
Even Tom Delay would be infinitely better than what we have now in the white house. We NEED to get people in power who understand government and the economy more, and from everything I can tell, Perry and Bachmann are two of the best possible people we could have.

I guess you and I will just have to agree to disagree on this one.

Good for her! Thanks for sharing her testimony. It is so refreshing to hear of someone who does the right things in spite of the financial loss.
Your welcome.

Her spiritual turnaround in the late 1970s has certainly been a blessing and encouragement for me too.

Thankfully my sister, an ob-gyn --and a former liberal (not that all liberals are pro-choice, but most seem to be), vowed to never perform abortions in her practice. She's currently not working, staying home instead to raise her 2 kids and manage her and her husband's home. Only after both kids are grown and on their own will she start working again.

I've heard that the weather can get pretty rough up there, for people used to living at lower latitudes. Still, if most of these jobs are tied to ND's recent energy boom, I assume that they are relatively safe from being outsourced to other countries. Then again, foreign workers could always be brought in to do those jobs that Americans "just won't do". Unfortunately our government in its infinite wisdom and compassion has made it so much easier to just sit at home and wait for a check and/or food coupons than it is to pack up and move North to where the jobs are.

Good.

Now Rick Perry won't have to bear the brunt of our seemingly obsessive and perfectionist environmental lobby alone.

We desperately need one of these two, or someone like them, to win if this country is to have any chance of developing a favorable energy/economic policy any time soon.
