GG,

Mary bore witness of her need of a Saviour when she said
“And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.” (Luke 1:46-47)
yet Rome teaches that she was without sin. This is heresey.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states:
508 “From among the descendants of Eve, God chose the Virgin Mary to be the mother of his Son. “Full of grace,” Mary is “the most excellent fruit of redemption” (SC 103): from the first instant of her conception, she was totally preserved from the stain of original sin and she remained pure from all personal sin throughout her life.”

The Scriptures reveal that Christ alone is the sinless One,
Hebrews 4:15
“For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”
Hebrews 7:26
“For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;”
II Cor. 5:21
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness og God in him.”

It is Christ who sits at the "right hand of God" to make intercession for His people and not Mary. (Heb. 7:25; Rom. 8:34)

"Jesus states that the "Gates of Hell shall not prevail" against his Church."

I would commend to your reading an article written by Richard Bennett, former Roman Catholic priest, entitled 'Identifying the Early Church'
Link: http://www.bereanbeacon.org/articles/Identifying_the_Early_Church.pdf
in which he carefully shows out of Scripture that the “early church” . . the apostolic era church, which is representative of the true church of Christ does not in any way resemble the Roman Catholic church.

Excerpt:
“The stark reality of the facts of history of the true church permeated with the Gospel of God’s grace in doctrine and practice utterly voids the papal assertion of an historical continuity between the early believers and the papal church via their dogma of apostolic succession. Rather the Roman Catholic Church is the proven schismatic from the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.”

This then is the church of which Christ said ". . . I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." (Matt.16:18)

May the Lord be pleased to add you to HIS CHURCH.

"And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved." (Acts 2:47)

In Christian love

“Since Catholicism and G. Orthodoxy precede Fundamentalist Christianity by well over 1500 years, I should think that it would be apparent to anyone but the most blind or fanatic Troglodyte, that if any Gospel is to name the "Other Gospel" it would be yours.”
**********
Nothwithstanding your outrageous claims to the contrary, God's Word, wherein He is pleased to reveal the Gospel of God's free & sovereign grace by faith in our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ, predates the existence of the Roman Catholic church & the false gospel . . *“another gospel” which she promotes.

*Galatians 1:6-7
"I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel.
Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ."

Excerpt: “Salvation: God's Graciousness in Christ, and the Roman Catholic Doctrine of Justification”
by R. Bennett, former R.C. Priest

“The Roman Catholic Church does not rest satisfied with Christ alone, her process program in fact nullifies the grace of God (Gal. 5:4) What is most serious, the very truth of the Gospel is thus made void. The process system is a hopeless practice born of a blasphemous idea. Rather, “It is God that justifies.” (Rom. 8:33)”

The R.C. Gospel of works is that very gospel referred to in God's Word as “another gospel”, Galatians 1:6-7. Christian unity can never be achieved at the expense of TRUTH. The false gospel of Rome utterly contradicts the glorious Gospel of the free & sovereign grace of our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ revealed in God's unalterable Word. The doctrinal truth of justification by faith in the work & merit of Christ's perfect work of righteousness, and that imputed to a sinner by grace through faith cannot be polluted by the introduction of the imagined works or merit of sinful man.

Galatians 2:16
“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.”

Romans 3:24-26
“Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

Neil said . . "This is just one of many reasons why no true evangelical should ever join hands with Catholics. Any of the latter who are baffled by Protestant intransigence should be aware that the RCC has officially consigned evangelical believers to Hell."
*************************

How solemnly true Neil. "for what communion hath light with darkness. And what concord hath Christ with Belial?" (II Cor. 6:14b-15a)

Charles Spurgeon's words resonate in our day as well:

"The sooner we let certain Archbishops and Cardinals know that we are aware of their designs, and will in nothing co-operate with them, the better for us and our country. Of course, we shall be howled at as BIGOTS, but we can afford to smile at that cry, when it comes from the church which invented the Inquisition.

"No peace with Rome" is the motto of reason as well as of religion(ibid.)."

Bert . . by way of postscript to my most recent post, I would add . . .

I thank God that I was not exposed to the terminology . . Calvinism . . Arminianism until a few years ago, and judging from the various posts here, I can only regard this as a great mercy from God.

Notwithstanding I thank God for His irresistable grace, His living Word and His quickening Spirit that lead me into Truth, the truth as it is in Jesus.

Bert, in that regard, I believe when Christ taught us to pray “Thy kingdom come . . thy will be done” it was this that He had in mind . . . “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me.” (John 6:37) All that God gave to Christ will at last be saved and brought into the Kingdom of God for this is HIS PLAN OF SALVATION and none can frustrate it.

For . . ."none can stay his hand, or say unto Him, What doest thou?"
(Daniel 4:35)

The best advice I can offer you now would be to leave the forum for a time, that you might prayerfully read God's precious and living Word.

As Christ Himself declared:
"It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit and they are life." (John 6:63)

Bert,

As you know, I was a R.C. By tradition, but made a Christian by the “new birth”(John 3:3-8)

My conversion followed on after a woman, who I knew only casually, gave me a Bible. I had never read God's precious Word before that time, some 20 years ago, but upon receipt of it,I found I could not put it down. His Word brought me under conviction of my sin and in time, came with converting power as well to my soul when I learned of Christ, and did by faith, lay hold of him as a refuge for my soul. For “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God” (Rom. 10:17) and as it is written . . .”And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.” (John. 6:45) And while the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, it is the love of Christ that constrains me now. I love Him because He first loved me. (1 Jo. 1: 19)
Bert, may it please God to make you “wise unto salvation through the Holy Scriptures through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (2 Tim. 3:15) . . as He did me!

Truly the Scripture that reads thus . . “I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee” (Jer. 31:3) is my testimony.

June, a witness for Christ

Amen Wayne and to this . . by God's grace . . I too can testify!

Note also verses 25, 27, 28 of Ezekiel 36 that enlarge upon this truth

“Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you.
And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments and do them.
And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers: and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.”

Only those who are thus cleansed are His people, and that by the “washing of regeneration of the word” through the miraculous “new birth” by the gracious operation of the Holy Spirit.(Titus 3:4-7; John 3:3-8; 1 Pet. 1:22-23)

How wonderful and miraculous to consider that God's Spirit now indwells me, which is the seal that signifies and certifies that I am His and He is mine. (Rom. 8:9; 15-16)
and how utterly unscriptural is Rome's teaching of sacramental BAPTISMAL REGENERATION shown to be as well, as cited in Sherlock's comment below.

"Salvation is of the LORD." Jonah 2:9

Bert says,
Why the claims like 2 Peter 3:9 that God wants *all* of us to be saved?

God Himself defines the word *all* here in other passages of Scripture, i.e.,
John 6:37 "all that the Father giveth me . . . "
Note in John 17, Christ prays only for those whom the Father *gave* him, those "chosen in HIM from before the foundation of the world." (Eph. 1)

John 17:2 ". . . that He should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him."

John 17:9 "I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me, for they are thine."

John 17:11 "Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me . . . "

John 17:24 "Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am . . "

II Cor. 9:15
"Thanks be unto God for His unspeakable gift!"

It is worth noting that those who argue so forcefully for their own free will in the matter of their salvation would deprive the God of all power from exerting His will.

Our Lord Himself teaches us to pray thus:
Matt. 6:9-10
“Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name, Thy kingdom come,. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven . .”

As it is written . . .
John 6:37
“All that the Father hath given me shall come to me:”
John 6:44
“No man can come to me except the Father which hath sent me draw him:”

So it must be understood that only those drawn by the Father come to Christ.

Again, as it is written:
John 3:27
“. . . A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.”

Gal. 6:14a:
"But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of Jesus Christ . . "

Bert,

God makes us "willing" in the "day of his power" because He alone is sovereign.

As it is written:
Psalm 110:3a
"Thy people shall be willing in the day of thy power, . . . "

and again,

John 15:16a
"Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain:"

and again,
Titus 3:5-7
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and the renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour.
That being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs according the the hope of eternal life."

Ye must be born again. Bert, you have neither the will nor the power to effect your own birth, nor your "new birth" Conversely, no man can resist the infinite power of God's irrisistable grace!

June, a new creature in Christ (II Cor. 5:17) "born again by the incorruptible Word of God" (1 Pet. 1:23)
"But by by the grace of God I am what I am:" (1 Cor. 15:10a)

Bert,
The work of the Holy Spirit is vital to the conversion of a sinner. It is not our will, but His that saves us.

James 1:18
“Of His own will begat He us by the Word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.”

The outward means God employs is through the “foolishness of preaching” (1 Cor. 1:21), but it is only rendered effectual by the work of the Holy Spirit, which is sovereignly ordained and directed by God Himself as John 3:3-8 plainly sets forth. We can no more direct the Spirit of God than we can direct the wind!

In other words Bert, apart from the miraculous new birth, which God alone confers on sinners, those upon whom He sheds His grace discriminately according to His sovereign good pleasure, men remain in their natural fallen and ruined condition through the sin of Adam.

Ye must be born again! You could not effect your own natural birth and you cannot effect your spiritual birth . . for this is miraculous and is of a supernatural origin.

For it is written:
Rom. 9:15-16
“ . . . I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God, that showeth mercy.”

In Christian love, June

Bert,

There is a vast difference between the Lord's Table and the Mass, one is a memorial we are to observe in obedience to Christ's express command, the other as you have said in other posts, “an unbloodly sacrifice”, which is altogether contrary to Christ's command & unbiblical.

Those who have borne witness to the truth as it is in Jesus here have done so in the spirit of love, a love to Christ and a love for your soul. The false way of salvation taught by the RCC through their Christ-dishonouring doctrines & traditions which make void the commandments of God must be denounced without ambiguity. There is but one way of salvation revealed in Scripture and that is through the person & work of our Lord & Saviour Jesus Christ ALONE. It is utter blasphemy to ascribe the title 'co-redemptrix' and mediatrix to Mary!

Roman Catholicism is antithetical to biblical Christianity and this has been proven by the plain teaching of Scripture that both myself & others commenting here have pointed out to you time & time again. It remains the heartfelt desire & prayer of all those here who are of “like precious faith” that you too would be led by the Holy Spirit into truth.

In Christian love, June, a R.C. by tradition . . . a Christian by virtue of the “new birth” (John 3:3-8)

God's Word . .

Matt. 16:
verse 1
"The Pharisees also with the Sadducees came, and tempting desired him that he would show them a sign from heaven."

Matt. 16:

Matt. 16:

Yet in the final analysis, it matters not what the New York Times says, but what God's Word says, for “His Word alone is forever settled in heaven” (Ps. 119:89)

God's Word . . the final word as found in Gen. 2:18, 21-24:

Genesis 2:18
"And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him."

Genesis 2:21-24
"And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."

Consider God's thoughts on the thoughts of men:
Psalm 94:11:
"The LORD knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity."

Sermon:
The Acceptable Year
Pastor Michael Pickett
1
comment
“ A Joyful Sermon ”
Pastor Pickett, Prior to my selecting this sermon, I had looked for one on Leviticus 25, but when I discovered you had not preached specifically on that text, I was reminded of the beginning verses of Is 61 and felt certain you would preach this passage in the context of the Jubile year. To my delight, you did, mentioning also that Lev. 25 was the portion of Scripture you read to your congregation prior to the sermon. What a lovely presentation of Christ is set forth in the Year of Jubile. Christ, my Redeemer Kinsman, who secured my release from the awful debt of sin I owed by His precious blood; Christ, who effected my restoration to God, my rightful owner; Christ, who brought about my restitution and recovery to the former estate of fellowship with God, which I had forfeited by my sins and transgressions; And even as the land enjoyed her rest in this year, so did I find rest in Christ, my jubile, and the rejoicing that marked that year I too can testify to . . . a joy no man taketh from me . . a joy unspeakable! It is quite amazing how God wrote the Bible and even more amazing that He has in His mercy opened my eyes that I might see these wondrous things out of His law! (Ps. 119.18)

A word in season for the Lord's people . .

"The differing modes of Popery, Roman and Anglican, shall pass away as all things else have done that withstood the cross and cause of Jesus Christ. Even as a moment's foam dissolves into the wave that bears it and is gone forever, so shall all these disappear: yet shall Jesus Christ's holy gospel and himself, the Saviour, be set on high as a rock defying the billows. What a day was that when Luther's rough protest broke the silence of the dark ages, when the clear teaching of Calvin followed, and the bold notes of Zwingle were heard, and a thousand voices shouted in chorus! What a day was that when the nations awoke from their long sleep to lie no longer under priestly domination, resolute to be free! Cannot God, who sent one Reformation, send another? Be of good courage, for brighter days are on the way. There shall come yet greater awakenings, the Lord the avenger of his church shall yet arise, and the stone which the builders disallowed, the same shall be the head stone of the corner."

Excerpt from C.H.Spurgeon's Sermon entitled 'Jesus, The Stumbling Stone of Unbelievers' (1 Peter 2:7-8)

"After that lot of rubbish had been cleared away, the task was only begun, for soon after apostolic times, and first zeal of Christians had gone, there came the old ROMAN rubbish, which in the end proved a worse hindrance than all which had preceeded it. This Popish rubbish was found in layers — first one doctrinal error, and then another, and then another, and then another, and then another, till at this time the errors of the Church of Rome are as countless as the stars, as black as midnight, and as foul as hell. Her abominations reek in the nostrils of all good men. Her idolatries are the scorn of reason and the abhorrence of faith. The iniquities of her practice, and the enormities of her doctrine, almost surpass belief.

Popery is as much the masterpiece of Satan as the gospel is the masterpiece of God. There can scarcely be imagined anything of devilish craftiness or Satanic wickedness which could be compared with her, she is unparalleled, the queen of iniquity. Behold upon her forehead the name, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. The church of Rome and her teachings are a vast mountain of rubbish covering the truth."

'Calvin's Treatise on Relics'
Link: http://www.godrules.net/library/calvin/176calvin4.htm

Excerpt:
“The first Christians left the bodies of the saints in their graves, obeying the universal sentence, that all flesh is dust, and TO DUST IT MUST RETURN, and did not attempt their resurrection before the appointed time by raising them in pomp and state. This example has not been followed by their successors; on the contrary, the bodies of the faithful, in opposition to the command of God, have been disinterred in order to be glorified, when they ought to have remained in their places of repose awaiting the last judgment.

It is thus that the foolish fancy which people had at first for collecting relics, ended in this open abomination, — they not only turned from God, in order to amuse themselves with vain and corruptible things, but even went on to the execrable sacrilege of worshipping dead and insensible creatures, instead of the one living God”

Ps. 97:7 “Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship HIM`, all ye gods.”

It's interesting to note that one of the MOST VOCAL CRITICS of the RCC in this regard is himself a Roman Catholic, Richard Sipe:
http://www.richardsipe.com/doyle/Response%20to%20Hennigan%20letter%209-9-2009.pdf

“I am writing in reference to certain statements in the letter which are factually incorrect and others that are phrased in such a way so as to drastically distort the truth of the matter. This letter and the case it refers to are grounded in the sexual abuse of minors by Roman Catholic clergy. My interest in this matter is grounded in the fact that I am a Catholic priest and a Canon lawyer.

The first statement I wish to address as being untrue is in reference to the legislation passed which allowed time-barred claims. The author of the letter says “In California, ‘sworn enemies of the Catholic Church’ helped draft and secure passage of legislation to revive otherwise time-barred claims against employers of abusers. Although the statute was worded in neutral terms, the target of the legislation in floor debates and committee reports was always the Roman Catholic Church.”

Exposing the existence of widespread criminal behavior by Catholic priests is certainly not evidence that those who demand accountability and justice are “sworn enemies of the Catholic Church.”
